Joe Locke’s Wiccan Could Be Getting His Breakout Moment in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’
Marvel’s next generation of heroes has spent the past few years quietly assembling in the background of the MCU, waiting for the moment the franchise finally hands them the spotlight. Few characters embody that slow-building anticipation more than Billy Maximoff, the powerful son of Wanda Maximoff introduced under a shroud of mystery in ‘Agatha All Along.’
That mystery paid off in a big way once Joe Locke’s character was confirmed as Wiccan, instantly positioning him as a potential cornerstone of Marvel’s long-teased Young Avengers lineup. Since then, fans have been watching closely for any sign of where his story goes next as the MCU barrels toward its next major crossover event.
According to a new report, Locke is set to reprise the role in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ with sources indicating the character will finally get his chance to “shine” within the massive ensemble film. That framing suggests a more substantial role for Wiccan than a simple background cameo, positioning him as a genuinely important piece of the story rather than just another face in the crowd.
Additional speculation has gone even further, suggesting Wiccan could emerge as one of the most powerful young heroes featured in the film, with some reports pointing toward a possible confrontation between Billy and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. According to that theory, Doom takes a specific interest in Billy once learning he’s the son of the Scarlet Witch, reportedly even being the character who first refers to him by the Wiccan name on screen.
If the reports hold up, they would line up neatly with what Locke himself has said he wants for the character. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly not long after his identity as Wiccan was confirmed, Locke said that in his ideal world, Billy would become the next head of the Avengers and appear in every Marvel project imaginable, though he acknowledged there are bigger creative decisions at play beyond his control.

That kind of public enthusiasm from Locke has only fueled fan speculation about how large a role Wiccan might ultimately play in Marvel’s next Multiverse Saga finale. Given his powers are directly inherited from the Scarlet Witch, one of the most formidable figures in the franchise’s history, the character has long been viewed as a natural candidate for a major expansion once the story allows it.

This report follows a similar pattern to other recent ‘Secret Wars’ rumors, including speculation that Kathryn Hahn could return as Agatha Harkness in some capacity tied to Billy’s ongoing arc. Reported leaked concept art has also reportedly placed Wiccan alongside a wider ensemble of young heroes rumored to appear in the film, reinforcing the idea that Marvel may be building toward a genuine Young Avengers presence in its next crossover event.
As with all pre-production casting rumors, none of this has been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, and details are subject to change as the film moves closer to production. Still, the consistency across multiple reports suggests Wiccan’s inclusion in some form is increasingly likely, even if the full scope of his role remains unclear.
