You know those vigilantes we all know and love, from the movies and the comics? Well, we at Fiction Horizon have decided to focus today’s articles on two vigilantes, although the two of them come from a completely different habitat. The first among them is John Wick, the assassin and protagonist of the movie franchise that carries his name, while the other is DC’s most famous superhero, Gotham’s Dark Knight – the Batman. If you wanted to know who would win in a fight between the two, keep reading our article.
Batman would absolutely be able to defeat John Wick. Although John Wick is an amazing fighter, Batman has much more experience, he is a better hand-to-hand fighter and has a variety of gadgets at his disposal.
Our comparison is going to be divided into three sections. The first is going to bring an overview of the two characters, after which we are going to compare their powers, including their signature weapons. Finally, we’re going to bring you a detailed analysis of the two characters to determine which one would win in a direct clash.
John Wick and his powers
His real name Jardani Jovonovich, he was born in the former Soviet Union to parents of Ukrainian, Russian, or possibly Koryo-saram origins. His parents died when he is very young, so he was taken in by an old friend of his father, who becomes his mentor. Raised in New York, he was taught a lot of martial arts, weapons, and foreign languages. Initially a member of Russian Roma, he left the group and took on the name John Wick for unknown reasons.
He acquired many skills over the years, including, but not limited to, martial arts, firearms, bladed weapons, tactical driving, infiltration, evasion, where he is recognized as a formidable expert in each of the fields. Thanks to this knowledge, he is able to utilize the skills he was taught in battle and could use practically all weapons. However, he never limits himself only to weapons, and uses his adaptive skills to cope with any situation, using whatever he can find to help him; this is related to the famous story about him, how he once killed three men at a bar with an ordinary pencil and in the third part kills a taller, obviously stronger man with simple books.
He has built a strong reputation as a ruthless assassin who will fulfill any contract. Thanks to this, the Russian mobster who leads the group Tarasov Mob, called him to join him in his operations, which he ultimately did.
As Viggo Tarasov once said, John is known for being an uncompromising and very strong-willed person, determined to fulfill the task at hand. He has been portrayed as a very confident person who knows his abilities and makes full use of them in every situation. He has no fears and simply approaches all the challenges that lie ahead without any doubt or fear. He is highly respected by all, and is known for being an assassin no one would want to take on; some learned this the hard way.
He also adores dogs.
Batman and his powers
Devoid of any superpower to fight crime, Batman relies solely on his physical condition and gadgets. His costume, designed to terrify criminals, is made of kevlar, which protects him from bullets and bladed weapons while his cape protects him from fire.
His belt, shown for the first time in 1939, includes several pockets in which he stores offensive and defensive weapons: Batarangs, which are boomerangs in the stylized shape of a bat, neutralizing gas capsules and a taser. Batarangs can be thrown by hand or with a special pistol. Some Batarangs have a particular function (magnetic Batarangs, equipped with a camera, light, explosives, etc.).
A first aid kit is also slipped into his belt.
Batman uses different costumes adapted to the particularities of the missions: diving in the deep seas, moving in space, etc.
After using unmarked vehicles, Batman built the Batmobile in 1941. The vehicle is armored and the front, designed in the stylized form of a bat’s head, can serve as a ram. The model has varied over the decades. In the 1950s, it was a roadster than a sedan, a sports car in the 1960s, a sports coupe for the 1970s, a dragster in the 1980s followed by a futuristic vehicle.
This extraordinary vehicle is equipped with many gadgets and includes a mini crime laboratory. The Batmobile is Batman’s best-known contraption, but it’s not the only one. Depending on his needs, Batman uses a Batcycle, Batplane, Batcopter, Batboat, Batsub, and many more.
The Bat-Signal is used by Gotham Police to enlist the help of Batman. It’s a powerful spotlight that draws Batman’s badge into the night sky. Bob Kane admitted that his inspiration for the Bat-Signal came from the film The Bat Whispers (1930), which depicted a bandit whose bat-head mask produced towering bat shadows and which signaled his alleged next victims with a bat signal projected on the walls.
This signal visible from all places in the city is used for the first time in the story “Case of the Costume-Clad Killer” published in Detective Comics #60 in February 1942.
John Wick vs Batman: Who would win?
And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.
The thing with John Wick and Batman is that they’re both regular humans. Okay, sure, Batman is considered to be a superhero and he might have peak human abilities, but he is still just a normal human, like John Wick. Their approaches are different, as well as their motivations. Where Wick takes his opponents head-on and uses guns, motivated to avenge his wife’s memory and himself, Batman prefers operating in the shadows, without the use of guns, and actually wants to fight crime.
Now, if the two were to clash, we actually think that John Wick wouldn’t really stand much chance. His forte are his guns, but Batman has fought and defeated the likes of Deadshot, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, Joker, and the Penguin, all of who use guns in their crimes. He is absolutely prepared for a gunfight, although he never carries one himself.
On the other hand, John Wick wouldn’t be able to do much against Batman’s skills and his gadgets. First of all, he couldn’t really counter Batman’s stealth abilities. Secondly, he’d have no way of countering all of his gadgets. Thirdly, Batman knows more martial arts. And, finally, Batman has fought the likes of Superman and Darkseid, characters who would obliterate John Wick in an instant.
Ultimately, it all comes down to Batman being the more skilled of the two. The guy is absolutely amazing and if you add his famous prep time to the equation, John Wick wouldn’t last more than a couple of minutes. But even if Wick managed to surprise the Dark Knight, Batman would still manage to defeat him with relative ease.
