Johnny Knoxville Just Slammed the Door Shut on Any Future ‘Jackass’ Movie
For twenty five years, the ‘Jackass’ crew has built a career out of convincing fans that no stunt was too reckless and no bruise too painful to put on camera. That run appeared to reach its natural stopping point this summer with the release of Jackass: Best and Last, directed by Jeff Tremaine and produced by Tremaine, Spike Jonze, Johnny Knoxville, and Shanna Zablow Newton, marking the fifth and final main installment in the film series following Jackass Forever in 2022.
The film reunited the franchise’s most recognizable faces, with Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Wee Man, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and Danger Ehren joined by newer cast members Poopies, Zach Holmes, Jasper Dolphin, and Rachel Wolfson. Despite the nostalgia, the movie opened with a franchise best 93 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes while posting the lowest opening weekend in the series’ history, a strange split between critical love and audience turnout that had already made headlines before Knoxville’s latest comments.
Now the star has made it painfully clear there is no version of ‘Jackass 6’ on the horizon, even one carried by a new generation of daredevils. Asked directly whether the torch could eventually be handed down, Knoxville did not hedge or leave any wiggle room. “I think there is 0% chance in that happening. We’re done.”
That kind of finality lines up with everything Knoxville has said around the release. He has stated publicly that the film represents the natural conclusion of the franchise, calling it “the natural place to end.” The decision reportedly has as much to do with his body as his mindset, since the 55 year old is no longer able to perform the kind of massive stunts that defined the series, especially after suffering a major concussion when he was hit by a bull while filming Jackass Forever.
Knoxville also addressed the franchise’s history of crying wolf on its own ending. He acknowledged that the crew claimed to be finished before, admitting that after the very first ‘Jackass’ they said they were done and weren’t, leaving every film since open ended. This time, he insists that cycle is finally closed for good, at least as far as another feature film goes.
Not everyone in the crew is treating the franchise’s legacy as fully sealed. Steve-O suggested the brand could still live on through a documentary series chronicling its history, saying he is confident there will never be another ‘Jackass’ film but believes a behind the scenes docuseries is close to inevitable, an idea Knoxville backed up by confirming plans for a ‘Jackass’ documentary in the near future. Bam Margera also appears in the new film only through previously unseen archival footage, giving longtime fans one more callback before the credits roll for good.
Even with a modest box office run, the movie’s $10.3 million global opening weekend essentially covered its $10 million production budget, so financially the franchise still exits on solid footing. Whether audiences are ready to accept that ‘Jackass’ really is done this time, or whether they are holding out for that rumored documentary, is exactly the kind of thing worth hashing out in the comments.
