Jon Stewart didn’t hold back this week as he took aim at Fox News over their mixed reaction to the recent No Kings protests.

During Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, Stewart mocked the network for first warning that the demonstrations would be extreme and dangerous, only to later downplay them as silly and pointless.

The comedian began his monologue by showing clips of political figures such as House Speaker Mike Johnson, who described the protests as “the hate America rally,” and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who called the participants “the farthest left, the hardest core, the most unhinged in the Democratic Party.”

Stewart couldn’t resist making fun of the exaggerated language. “Not the hardest core! I expected partial Marxism and hard core, but not full display hardest core ha-Marxism,” he joked. “It was going to be like Mad Max out there with Chuck Schumer on flaming guitar!”

He went on to sarcastically describe how he had prepared for chaos that never came. “We sat in our bunkers, doors locked, windows boarded, muskets and cyanide pills at the ready, prepared for whatever the hardest core had in store. Do your worst, display your Marxism to its fullest!”

However, CNN’s coverage painted a very different picture. The network reported that around seven million people joined the protests across the country, describing the events as “largely peaceful” and even “joyful.”

Stewart pointed out the contrast, joking, “It was kind of an incredible turnout that was somewhat inspiring. Seven million Americans, zero mass shootings? I look forward to Republicans apologizing sincerely for implying these Americans were… what’s the word I’m looking for? Deplorable!”

Meanwhile, Fox News hosts changed their tune after the demonstrations, calling the protesters “silly” and “dumb.” One commentator even mocked the “absurd costumes,” claiming the movement didn’t look serious. Stewart laughed at the contradiction. “Make up your mind, Fox,” he said. “You complained it would be a terrifyingly ‘s*** your pants’ protest, and now you are complaining about how boringly unpants-sh**** it was?”

He then called out another Fox talking point, the claim that the protests were full of “old white people.” Stewart found that especially ironic coming from the network. “Extra, extra, this just in! ‘This country has too many angry old white people,’ says — hold on — Fox News,” he joked. “Fox News says, ‘Why are old white people so angry?’ Fox News, mad that there are so many old white people in America.”

Stewart’s segment ended with him shaking his head at Fox’s constant back-and-forth coverage, accusing them of twisting every story to fit their narrative, no matter how inconsistent it becomes.
