Wicked has given fans a treat by releasing a long-awaited deleted scene featuring Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater shirtless as Fiyero and Boq.

The scene had been teased last year by Wicked cast member Bowen Yang on Trisha Paytas’ podcast, leaving audiences curious about what happened to the footage. Now, viewers can finally see it online.

Entertainment Tonight shared the deleted scene from the first Wicked film on Friday. It shows Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), Glinda (Ariana Grande), Nessarose (Marissa Bode), Fiyero, and Boq enjoying a carefree day in the woods, skipping class at Shiz University.

The group plays badminton, has a picnic, and makes happy memories together. The scene also includes Boq picking up an axe, hinting at his fate in Wicked: For Good, a sweet kiss between Fiyero and Glinda, and Elphaba giving Glinda a pair of black boots.

The shirtless moment comes after Fiyero works up a sweat chopping wood. He removes his shirt while Glinda and Elphaba watch, impressed. Boq, not wanting to be outdone, rips off his own shirt, delighting Nessarose.

Yang explained why the scene was cut, saying it was partly because Slater’s physique made it hard to make Boq seem “insecure” next to Fiyero. “Look, he is jacked under that shirt,” Yang said on the podcast.

“They shot a whole montage after ‘Popular’… just to show the audience these are all friends now — Fiyero, Glinda, Elphaba, Nessa, and Boq — running around in the fields, hanging out. There was one moment… where it’s Boq and Fiyero, Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater, ripping their shirts off. And so you were supposed to see Jonathan Bailey in his full shirtless glory, like flexing.”

Yang added that Boq copies Fiyero because he feels insecure and wants to look attractive too. “But then it’s like, ‘Wait, Ethan’s got a great body,’” Yang joked.

Whether the deleted scene changes the story of Wicked or not, fans are thrilled to finally see these playful, shirtless moments. The scene gives a fun look at the friendships between the main characters before the story takes its more dramatic turns.
