The trailer for Sisu: Road to Revenge has dropped, bringing back Jorma Tommila as Aatami Korpi in the sequel to the 2022 surprise hit Sisu.

The new film is directed by Jalmari Helander, who also wrote the script, and once again dives into a brutal story of survival and vengeance.

In this chapter, Korpi returns to the place where his family was killed during the war. He takes apart their old house and sets out to rebuild it somewhere safe in their memory. But his plans are shattered when the Red Army commander responsible for their deaths, played by Stephen Lang, comes back looking to finish what he started. Richard Brake also joins the cast.

The sequel was shot in Estonia with a budget of more than €11 million. It is produced by Petri Jokiranta and Mike Goodridge, along with Sony’s Stage 6 Films overseeing. Unlike the snowy Lapland setting of the first movie, this film shifts locations while keeping the same gritty tone.

Helander had already hinted at the idea of a sequel back in 2023, telling the Finnish News Agency that he would consider it if the first film did well in the United States.

In another interview that year, he teased, “I have an idea of what would happen next… Maybe somebody needs [Aatami Korpi’s] skills again but let’s see.” Jorma Tommila also voiced interest in returning, and by the end of 2023 the project was officially moving forward.

The Finnish Film Foundation backed the film early on, increasing its support from €50,000 to €1 million.

Filming wrapped in late 2024. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems would distribute the movie in the U.S., replacing Lionsgate. Stage 6 Films kept international rights outside of Finland.

Sisu: Road to Revenge will first be shown at Fantastic Fest in September 2025, followed by a release in Finland on October 22. The U.S. release is set for November 21.

The first Sisu was a wild, bloody ride that surprised a lot of people with its intensity and dark humor. From the trailer, the sequel looks like it’s doubling down on revenge and raw violence.

Bringing in Stephen Lang as the villain feels like a perfect choice. I think fans of the original will be thrilled, but I’m curious if the film can match the impact of the first. What do you think about Sisu: Road to Revenge? Will it live up to the hype? Share your thoughts in the comments.
