Josh Brolin Hints at Thanos Returning to the MCU
Josh Brolin has once again hinted that Thanos could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor was asked about the possibility of reprising his role as the Mad Titan. “If Joe Russo comes to me, which he may have, I don’t know, and has an idea, then I might acquiesce,” Brolin said.
There is no official confirmation that Thanos will be coming back anytime soon. The MCU seems focused on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom as the next major villain. Brolin last appeared as Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, which showed the Titan’s defeat and the end of the Infinity Saga.
This isn’t the first time Brolin has teased a potential return. During a previous interview with Collider, he shared how much he would enjoy playing Thanos again, but only if the circumstances felt right.
“I’m not kidding — there’s a process to playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re going to bring Thanos back.’ It’s similar to Sicario; it has to feel right. It’s like when Ryan Reynolds and I discuss Taylor Swift instead of focusing on Deadpool 4. We often go back and forth. Ultimately, it’s about what fits in their minds and what fits in mine. Thanos must fit if he’s going to return. I would do anything the Russos wanted me to do,” Brolin explained.
When asked about any current talks with Marvel, Brolin didn’t give a straight answer, instead letting out a cough, leaving fans to speculate about future plans.
Two years ago, Brolin even suggested that Thanos would be back in some form. “You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back. And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back,” he said.
Fans are now left wondering if the Mad Titan could once again appear in the MCU. Could Thanos return to shake things up again, or is this just another tease? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments.
