Josh Duhamel Joins ‘Yellowstone’ Alumni In Paramount’s New Western Thriller ‘The Rescue’

Josh Duhamel has spent much of the past two years defending his Netflix hit ‘Ransom Canyon’ against constant comparisons to ‘Yellowstone.’ Now he is stepping directly into that world, joining a cast built almost entirely out of Taylor Sheridan’s cowboy universe for Paramount’s upcoming film ‘The Rescue.’

Production is underway, with the film set to arrive on January 29, 2027, placing it right in the middle of awards season conversation.

Josh Lucas previously played a young John Dutton, the character made famous by Kevin Costner, in flashback sequences on ‘Yellowstone.’ That detail turns ‘The Rescue’ into something closer to a genuine Dutton family reunion than a simple ensemble Western, even before accounting for Duhamel’s history on ‘Ransom Canyon.’

Principal photography on ‘The Rescue’ took place in Georgia from February 9, 2026, to March 26, 2026, meaning the shoot is already well behind Duhamel and fans will not have to wait too much longer to see the crossover play out on screen.

Costar Jack Schumacher made a similar case in an interview with ScreenRant, explaining that the show does not try to imitate Yellowstone or Virgin River and instead exists on its own terms, even as it shares themes of love and the struggle against changing ways of life on the American frontier.

That defense has followed the show through its second season and now into Duhamel’s next project.
