Josh Hartnett’s ‘Verity’ premiere appearance is the latest chapter in a career renaissance that has been building for years. In the film, Hartnett plays Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway. After a mysterious accident leaves Verity unable to finish her successful book series, Jeremy hires struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, played by Dakota Johnson, to complete it.
The role has sparked plenty of discussion. One analysis argued that his casting makes Jeremy feel more like a suspect than a simple romantic crush, pointing out that Hoover has reportedly said she doesn’t consider Jeremy the villain, while many readers disagree. He also praised director Michael Showalter’s energy on set. Speaking with Fandango, Hartnett described how Showalter would add new ideas in the middle of scenes and how his excitement made the cast feel like he was fully invested in every moment.
