Jujutsu Kaisen: Can Choso Use Domain Expansion? Here’s What We Know!

Choso is a powerful character from the Jujutsu Kaisen series and is the leader of the nine Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. He is, thus, a materialized cursed object and was initially introduced as a villain in the series who was associated with Kenjaku’s and Mahito’s group. Although he initially wanted to avenge his brothers by killing Yuji Itadori, his relationship with the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen proved to be an exceptionally important narrative detail. But, this article is going to be dedicated to Choso’s powers and abilities, as we are going to reveal whether Choso is able to use Domain Expansion in the series.

Domain Expansion is the zenith of a curse user’s abilities

A Domain Expansion, in the universe of Jujutsu Kaisen, is a unique and potent technique that allows users to actualize their intrinsic domain by casting a barrier to establish a distinct zone and creating an environment within it using cursed energy. This is a technique only exceptionally skilled Curses and Jujutsu Sorcerers can claim. Although materializing a domain requires a significant amount of cursed energy, there are various advantages when using it against adversaries.

Unfinished domains are also those that have no spells associated with them. Using this strategy appears to need using a hand gesture or symbol that is specific to the holder of the domain. When a Domain Expansion is employed, a sphere of energy rapidly encloses the user and their opponent(s) and traps them inside. Furthermore, it is reported to be almost impossible to leave an enemy’s Domain using conventional means, even though accessing it from the outside is said to be very easy. In a Domain, the owner’s powers are enhanced by the environment, giving them access to new spells or enhanced versions of previously learned ones.

We have now given you an overview of these Domains in Jujutsu Kaisen, which means we are ready to discuss Choso’s Domain in the series.

Choso probably cannot use Domain Expansion yet, but he has the necessary potential

As we have said, only the strongest and most skilled Jujutsu Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits are able to use Domain Expansion, but not all of them. As for Choso, his level of power is certainly sufficient enough for him to be able to activate a Domain, but is he able to do it? Well, as far as things stand now in the series, Choso is not able to use a Domain Expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen.

If you’re wondering why that is – we don’t know officially. A Domain Expansion is a complex technique and since Choso would certainly be able to use it, we assume that Akutami simply did not see a reason to give him a Domain or he was unable to come up with a good Domain for this character. Choso has some amazing techniques, including his Blood Manipulation technique, but as things stand now, Domain Expansion is not among them.

Now, we have to state that it has not been officially confirmed that Choso is unable to expand a Domain, and our answer is based on the fact that he has not done it yet. This doesn’t have to mean that he cannot, but as things stand now – Choso is unable to activate a Domain, and until Akutami actually states otherwise, we can take this to be the truth in his case. But could we actually guess what it could be?

It is difficult. Namely, Domains in Jujutsu Kaisen are not necessarily related to a character’s other techniques, and it is very difficult to actually make any predictions in this case. It’s not like a Bankai in Bleach, which is almost always an upgrade of the Shikai; a Domain can be related, but it can also be vastly different than a character’s Innate Technique, so we cannot give a proper guess here. It could be that his Domain will have something to do with blood, but this is just a guess, and we cannot really confirm it or deny it.
