If there is one thing we need Akutami to do (aside from bringing back Gojo, of course) in Jujutsu Kaisen it is to tell us more about the history of his lore. We’ve gotten glimpses into the past and some basic information, but we cannot shake off the feeling that Akutami has only scratched the surface here and that there is much more to tell. One aspect related to the franchise’s history is related to the clans of the jujutsu society, which we know about – but it’s not enough! In this article, we will talk about one of the clans – the Fujiwara Clan – and tell you what you need to know about them.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, some notable jujutsu families are called clans. Three of them (Gojo, Zenin, Kamo), are considered to be the Three Great Clans, but there were other clans as well.
  • The Fujiwara Clan was not a Great Clan in the series, but it was a major family and is considered to be one of the strongest families from the Heian Period.
  • Takako Uro is the only known member born into the clan, although Yorozu was also a member of the clan, although she was adopted into the family.

The Fujiwara Clan had an important role in the past

The Fujiwara Clan was a family of jujutsu sorcerers from the Heian period. They were not among the Three Great Clans, but were notable for being one of the strongest clans of the Heian Period. Not much is known about this family from the canon content, but we do know that the northern branch of the Fujiwara family played an important role in fighting Sukuna back in the Golden Age.

During the Heian period, the Fujiwara clan welcomed powerful exorcists into their own ranks; it is unknown whether this was a practice among other families as well, but seeing how the Zenin clan treated its own members, we don’t think that it was a common practice. Yorozu, a “wildling” as some aristocrats of the time called her, was integrated into the Fujiwara clan after defeating the Five Empty Generals, for example; Yorozu wasn’t the most loyal person they could summon, but we know that she did become a member of the clan.

She was even promoted and appointed to the capital of ancient Japan. At one point, the forces of the Fujiwara Hokke (the northern branch), the Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad, and the Five Empty Generals, joined forces to face Sukuna but ended up being reduced to shreds by the latter.

Sadly, this is all we know about the history and the members of the Fujiwara clan. In the next section, we are going to tell you a bit about the structure of the family.

The northern Fujiwara Clan seemed to have a powerful army at its disposal

As we have said, the northern branch of the clan is the only branch we know about, so we are going to present the known information to you here. (We do hope that Akutami will reveal more in the future.)

The northern branch, the Fujiwara Hokke (Kanji: 藤原北家, lit. “Northern Fujiwara Clan”), had special troops and assassin battalions under its command. The details are scarce, but as we’ve said above, these two units participated in the battle against Sukuna during the Golden Age, so we’re going to tell you what we know about them here:

  • Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad (じつげつせいしんたい, Jitsugetsusei Shintai) was the name of an elite unit of assassins under the direct orders of the clan. The members of the squad had to be devoid of any individuality, lived in the shadows, and were not even allowed to have a name. Takako Uro was the only named member of this squad, but even she was only given a name so she could be framed and executed. They were notably destroyed by Ryomen Sukuna.
  • Five Empty Generals (くうしょう, Gokūshō) was the name of another combat unit directly subordinate to the Fujiwara Clana. They were of the same caliber as the Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad commanded by Takako Uro. Just like them, the Five Empty Generals were wiped out by Sukuna. No member of this unit is known, but it is known that they had been beaten by Yorozu in the past.

Sadly, this is all we have for you. Two members, two units, one branch, and a failed attempt at defeating Sukuna in the past. That is all we know about the Fujiwara Clan, despite the fact that they seem to be quite important.
