‘Jumanji: Open World’ Trailer Unleashes the Game on the Real World Just in Time for Christmas
The ‘Jumanji’ franchise has spent nearly a decade trapping its heroes inside a dangerous video game. Now, for its final chapter, the tables are turning, and ‘Jumanji: Open World’ is bringing the chaos straight into our world.
The film marks the conclusion of the trilogy that began with 2017’s ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ and continued with 2019’s ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’. That second film ended by teasing that Jumanji’s creatures could escape, with a herd of ostriches turning up in the real world outside a restaurant.
Now Sony Pictures has released a brand-new trailer for ‘Jumanji: Open World’, along with fresh promotional photos. The footage arrives ahead of the film’s exclusive theatrical release on December 25.
The trailer kicks off with jungle animals rampaging through suburbia during the holiday season. Spencer Gilpin, played by Alex Wolff, begins to suspect the game is bleeding into reality, and he’s devastated when his mother, played by Marin Hinkle, gets sucked into Jumanji herself.
It also confirms the return of Nick Jonas as the in-game character Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough. And as fans would expect, the footage promises plenty of the body-swapping antics that have defined the reboot films.

The first trailer, released back in July, laid out the twist at the heart of this final chapter. The game breaks free of its console, and Dwayne Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Jack Black’s Professor Shelly Oberon, Kevin Hart’s Franklin “Mouse” Finbar and Karen Gillan’s Ruby Roundhouse are left roaming the real world in “demo mode.”
That earlier footage showed Lamorne Morris’ repairman discovering an old video game console, followed by supernatural clouds forming over a house and ostriches stampeding through city streets. The new trailer builds on that premise with even more mayhem.

The ensemble cast is stacked with familiar faces. Alongside the core 4, Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain and Madison Iseman return as the real-world teens, while Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, Rhys Darby and Bebe Neuwirth are also back.
New additions include Burn Gorman, Brittany O’Grady, Nasim Pedrad, Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes. The roles for several of the newcomers have been kept under wraps. Director Jake Kasdan, who helmed both previous reboot films, returns to direct from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The story is based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg.

Kasdan first confirmed a follow-up was in development back in March 2020, but the project was delayed. Sony officially confirmed it was moving forward in October 2024, and the full title was revealed at CinemaCon in April 2026. Filming began in Los Angeles in November 2025 and wrapped in March 2026. Johnson is also producing alongside Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Matt Tolmach and Kasdan.
This is being positioned as the last game for this crew. Hart indicated back in March 2023 that the film in development would be the franchise’s final installment, and Johnson has also described it as the conclusion of the series.

The movie was originally set for a December 11 release before landing on Christmas Day. That puts it squarely in the holiday season, which suits a story about the game crashing into families’ lives at Christmastime.
‘Jumanji: Open World’ arrives exclusively in theaters on December 25. The film has not yet been rated by the Motion Picture Association. With the avatars loose in the real world and a family member trapped inside the game, the stakes feel higher than ever. If the new trailer is any indication, the trilogy is going out with a stampede.
