‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Brings Dinosaurs Back in a Big Way – By Absolutely Dominating Box Office

The dinosaurs are back, and people are clearly still excited to see them. Jurassic World Rebirth, the newest movie in the long-running franchise, just had a huge opening in theaters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s one of the biggest movie debuts of the year so far, both in the United States and around the world.
This film kicks off a new chapter in the Jurassic series. It’s directed by Gareth Edwards, who is known for Rogue One, and written by David Koepp, the same writer behind the original Jurassic Park from 1993. Instead of continuing where the last trilogy left off, the team behind this one wanted to start fresh.
In North America, the holiday tentpole is on course to post an estimated five-day domestic opening of $141.2 million, including $85.4 million for the three-day weekend, according to Saturday’s estimates. Overseas, it’s estimated that the movie will have an even bigger opening with $171.3 million.
That puts the film’s global start at $312.5 million, the second-best of the franchise,
This time, the story follows a new group of characters. A rescue team is sent to an island that once had ties to the original park, and there, they find a shipwrecked family — along with some of the deadliest dinosaurs ever seen.
The cast is also brand new. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey lead the team, and they’re joined by Rupert Friend, Luna Blaise, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda. The movie was produced by longtime franchise names Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, while Steven Spielberg and Denis Stewart returned as executive producers.
Even though reviews from critics and audiences have been mixed, it hasn’t stopped people from showing up. The movie opened right before the July 4th holiday, and even with people busy celebrating, theaters were still packed.
Jurassic World Rebirth is also doing really well overseas. The global audience is turning out in big numbers, which makes this one of the most successful international launches in the series. That’s a big win for Universal and Amblin, who weren’t even expecting it to open this strong.
This new film has a slightly smaller budget than the earlier Jurassic World movies, which helps when it comes to turning a profit. And while earlier films opened a bit bigger in the U.S., Rebirth is still off to a great start.
After the last trilogy wrapped up, which was directed by Colin Trevorrow, the creative team wanted to go back to what made the franchise exciting in the first place. So they brought in Edwards and gave it a new tone. There are still plenty of intense dinosaur moments, but the story also tries something a little different.
Meanwhile, other movies are also making waves at the box office. F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt, is doing great in its second week. It’s already passed $100 million in the U.S. and has made even more worldwide. That one is from Apple Original Films and Warner Bros.
Other films currently playing include the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, Pixar’s Elio, Sony’s 28 Years Later, and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. But one title that seems to be slipping fast is M3GAN 2.0, which isn’t doing as well in its second weekend.
The final numbers for all these films will be confirmed soon, but it’s already clear that Jurassic World Rebirth has brought new life to the franchise. Dinosaurs are definitely back, and fans around the world are here for it.
