Justin Baldoni Brings New Accusation Against Blake Lively Before It Ends With Us Trial
Justin Baldoni and his legal team are intensifying their defense against Blake Lively as their high-profile courtroom battle over the film It Ends With Us approaches a critical phase.
On Wednesday, March 25, the 42-year-old actor and director, alongside his co-defendants, formally accused Lively’s representation of attempting to overwhelm them with a massive “document dump.”
According to a letter filed with the court, the disclosures included nearly 1,000 potential exhibits and a list of over 40 witnesses, a move the defense argues is designed to complicate the pretrial process.
The defendants have requested a Zoom conference with Judge Lewis J. Liman to address what they describe as “voluminous disclosures that are not practical for trial purposes.” They contend that the sheer scale of the material, much of which they claim is inadmissible, makes it impossible to finalize jury instructions on the current timeline.
“It is difficult to imagine that even half that number would be put before the jury,” the defense letter stated, citing the witness list as further evidence of legal “overbreadth.” Blake Lively’s legal team quickly fired back on Thursday, March 26, dismissing the “document dump” label and characterizing the request for a deadline extension as a stall tactic.
They argued that the defendants are simply using an “incremental tactic to delay the trial” and suggested that their own delay in reviewing accessible materials should not be rewarded by the court. Despite this opposition, Judge Liman granted a one-week extension for pretrial filings and scheduled a status conference for April 2.
This latest development follows a failed settlement conference in February, where both stars reportedly appeared in person but were unable to reach an agreement to avoid a public trial.
The legal saga began in late 2024, following rumors of a significant rift on the set of their blockbuster adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel. Lively is seeking unspecified damages for alleged sexual harassment and attacks on her reputation, while Baldoni has countersued for defamation and extortion, seeking at least $400 million in damages.
While the legal battle consumes much of the headlines, both actors have remained active in their professional lives throughout the year. Justin Baldoni recently celebrated the success of his production company’s latest project, the sports drama The Senior, which stars Michael Chiklis and premiered in March 2025.
Blake Lively is also moving forward with new projects after the 2025 debut of her sequel, Another Simple Favor, on Amazon Prime Video. She is set to star in and produce the upcoming action-comedy The Survival List, where she plays a high-profile producer stranded on a desert island.
The It Ends With Us trial was originally slated for March but has been officially postponed until May 18 to accommodate the court’s criminal docket. This delay means the public feud, which has already involved allegations of “secret” director’s cuts and “smear campaigns,” will likely remain a central fixture of the Hollywood news cycle for the foreseeable future.
