Few television families have stayed as connected off-screen as the cast of ‘This Is Us,’ and years after the show wrapped, that bond still shows up in how the cast supports one another. Fans of the beloved NBC drama have continued watching the actors’ lives unfold well beyond the show’s 2022 finale.

That ongoing connection was on full display recently, as one former castmate weighed in on a deeply personal update from another. The moment offered a small but meaningful glimpse into just how close the show’s ensemble has remained years after their characters’ story concluded.

Justin Hartley, who played Kevin Pearson on the six-season family drama, was asked about his former co-star Chrissy Metz’s recent health journey during an interview with Extra TV on August 17. “She’s wonderful,” Hartley said. “She knows what I think of her. She’s terrific. And anytime I hear her doing well in any way, shape, or form is a great thing for me because I love her. I love her dearly.”

Hartley’s comments came just days after Metz herself opened up about a significant personal decision. In an August 10 appearance on the TODAY show, Metz revealed she had started taking a GLP-1 medication, despite years of skepticism about the treatment.

She explained that a friend had given her a thorough explanation of how the medication worked, which helped ease her hesitation. Metz also cited watching her father experience health complications related to obesity as a driving factor, saying she felt she needed to try to get ahead of similar issues in her own life.

Metz has since become a paid ambassador for Ro, a telehealth company that connects patients with GLP-1 treatment options. According to figures shared by Ro, she has lost 63 pounds since beginning the medication.

Metz has been careful to frame the process as more than just the medication itself. She’s said she’s working with a trainer, lifting weights, and building muscle, while trying to avoid fixating on a specific number. “I just want to feel strong and not have my morning ruined because I stepped on a scale and I’m several pounds above what I think I should be,” she explained.

Metz has been candid about expecting a mixed reaction to her announcement, acknowledging that public opinion on her body has followed her for years regardless of what choices she makes. “Everybody is judgy,” she said, adding that the criticism “doesn’t matter” because those voices “are not in my life. They’re not in my doctor’s notes. They’re not in the hereditary issues my family has.”

That instinct proved accurate. Following her announcement, Metz has faced renewed criticism online about her weight and her decision to promote the medication publicly, prompting her to address the backlash directly in a later podcast appearance.

Against that backdrop, Hartley’s supportive comments carry extra weight. The two actors played on-screen siblings for six seasons on a show largely built around themes of family, resilience, and personal growth, themes that seem to have carried over into their real-life friendship.

For fans who spent years watching Kevin and Kate Pearson navigate life’s ups and downs together on screen, seeing that same warmth extend into how the actors support each other off-camera feels like a fitting echo of the show’s legacy. Whatever comes next in Metz’s personal journey, she now has some familiar voices in her corner cheering her on.
