Written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, Kaiju No. 8 started off as a major hit in the manga market back in 2020. It took four years for the anime adaptation to premiere, and with the anime, the main series became an extremely popular franchise.

The anime series was a success, we’re also talking about a game, and a movie was recently released with an additional short episode, “Hoshina’s Day Off,” which was a theatre exclusive at the time. We also know that a second season is coming in July.

In light of that, we can confirm that the producers have confirmed that Season 2 of Kaiju No. 8 is debuting on July 19, 2025, while the “Hoshina’s Day Off” short will also be shown on television for the first time on July 5, 2025.

As said, the second season of the show is scheduled to premiere on July 19 on TV Tokyo and its affiliated channels at 11:00 p.m. JST (10:00 a.m. EDT). To celebrate that, a new Season 2 visual has been released:

But, this is not all. You might remember that the recently aired recap movie, which serves as an intro for the second season, also added a previously unseen short titled “Hoshina’s Day Off,” a completely original story that had not been seen anywhere.

And while moviegoers had the chance to see it, many fans were bummed out because they did not have the chance to see it in the theaters (as the movie had a limited international release). But, we can now confirm that the side story episode “Hoshina’s Day Off” will air on Japanese TV on July 5 on TV Tokyo and affiliates at 11:00 p.m JST (10:00 a.m. EDT), and will also stream on X/Twitter worldwide in real time as it airs.
