Kanye West Appears To Catch Some Sleep While Testifying in Malibu Mansion Case
Ye, the artist previously known as Kanye West, recently drew significant attention during a civil trial in Los Angeles, where he appeared to drift off while testifying. The legal dispute centers on a claim by contractor Tony Saxon, who alleges he is owed over $1 million for unpaid wages and expenses related to an intensive 2021 renovation project at Ye’s former Malibu mansion.
Journalists inside the courtroom described the musician as frequently appearing drowsy. Reports noted that Ye repeatedly yawned, kept his eyes closed for long periods, and occasionally seemed to nod forward while sitting on the witness stand.
The behavior was so noticeable that the plaintiff’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, reportedly asked a colleague if the artist was actually sleeping. When Ye was alert, his testimony was largely characterized by brevity and a lack of specific details.
He frequently responded to questions with simple “yes” or “no” answers, or by stating, “I don’t recall.” However, he did provide some specific testimony when pressed on unusual details, such as confirming a memory regarding Saxon’s body odor while denying knowledge of other interactions, like trips to a hardware store.
Ye was described as “emotionless” and “statue-like” in court today, often giving very short answers, mostly “I don’t recall” and “I don’t remember.”

Ye also took a moment to clarify his preferred address, insisting, “It’s just Ye. No ‘mister.’” Regarding the renovation itself, he corrected claims that he wanted all staircases turned into slides, stating only one was intended for that change, and maintained that he had a functional, albeit different, plumbing system planned for the house.
His court appearance followed testimony from his wife, Bianca Censori, who also appeared in court to provide evidence regarding the project. Censori maintained that Saxon had misrepresented his professional qualifications when he was hired, a point central to Ye’s defense.
Saxon has consistently disputed this, asserting he was entirely transparent about his background as a project manager rather than a licensed contractor. Beyond his current legal battles, Ye remains deeply focused on his evolving musical career.
He is currently preparing for the release of his twelfth studio album, titled Bully, which is scheduled to drop on March 20. This project follows his collaborative Vultures series and has been highly anticipated by fans after multiple delays over the past year.
In addition to the album release, Ye is moving forward with an expansive live performance schedule for the year. He has confirmed major stadium shows in Europe, including dates in the Netherlands and Italy, marking his first significant return to international touring in over a decade.
