Karen Gillan is proving that the road to a global blockbuster can be paved with plenty of laughter and a bit of festive chaos.

The 38-year-old actress is currently back in her element on the set of Jumanji 4, and she isn’t keeping the fun to herself. As production continues, the cast has been treating fans to behind-the-scenes glimpses that suggest the fourth installment of the franchise will be as energetic and tight-knit as ever.

In a recent social media update, Gillan shared a collection of images that offer a raw, playful look at life during filming. The highlights included the return of her character, Ruby Roundhouse, complete with the signature tactical gear and impressive physical results from months of training.

One standout snap features the Guardians of the Galaxy star posing alongside a massive nutcracker, sporting her familiar crop top and shorts ensemble. While the outfit has sparked discussion in the past, Gillan seems to be leaning into the role with more confidence than ever.

The photo dump also slows down for more intimate moments, including candid selfies with her dedicated hair and makeup team. This sense of camaraderie isn’t new; the cast famously celebrated Gillan’s birthday on set earlier in the shoot, reinforcing the idea that this ensemble is more than just a group of co-stars.

Perhaps the most chaotic and joyful image in the set features Gillan squeezed into a frame with Jack Black and a young child. Black is seen pulling one of his trademark exaggerated faces, while Gillan appears to be in the middle of a genuine laugh.

She rounded out the post with a more practical look at the production process, holding the child while focused on a detailed storyboard. In a nod to her years spent in the highly secretive Marvel Cinematic Universe, she made sure to slap a deliberately silly spoiler warning over any sensitive plot details.

The holiday-themed backdrops and snowy settings in these images have led fans to speculate that the game’s avatars might finally be stepping out into the real world. Whatever the plot holds, it is clear the core quartet, Gillan, Black, Dwayne Johnson, and Kevin Hart, have maintained the chemistry that turned the 2017 reboot into a billion-dollar success story.

Outside the world of Jumanji, Karen Gillan has been exceptionally active in both blockbuster and independent cinema. She recently received critical acclaim for her performance in The Life of Chuck, a Stephen King adaptation directed by Mike Flanagan that also stars Tom Hiddleston.

Fans of her Marvel work are still buzzing about her long tenure as Nebula, which seemingly concluded with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though she has expressed interest in returning to the character if the story is right. Additionally, she is set to appear in the highly anticipated Highlander reboot alongside Henry Cavill, playing the wife of the immortal Connor MacLeod.

As Jumanji 4 prepares for its December 11 release date, the momentum behind the project is undeniable. With a cast that is clearly as bonded as they are fit, the “final level” of this adventure looks set to be a massive holiday treat for audiences worldwide.

Do you think the Jumanji characters moving into the real world is the right direction for the final film, or do you prefer the jungle setting? Share your thoughts in the comments!
