Katy Perry is facing criticism after a video surfaced showing her throwing a birthday cake backstage during her Lifetimes Tour. The pop star was celebrating her 40th birthday when the incident occurred.

In the clip, Perry, still in costume, blew out the candles on a large sheet cake but instead of serving it, she tossed it toward a staff member. The cake missed its target and ended up splattered on the floor.

The video was shared on X by a user who claimed their mother had baked the cake. “My mom was the one that baked this cake. She was so excited about the opportunity to make a cake for Katy Perry and spent so long on it. I’m genuinely confused and upset as to why she would do this,” the user wrote.

Many viewers criticized the singer for the way the cake was treated. One comment read, “The most disrespectful thing is her being okay with her crew having to demean themselves to eat food off the floor which she threw instead of serving it up for them. Hope she had another cake on standby.”

Others shared similar concerns. “This hurt my feelings and I didn’t even bake the cake,” wrote another. Some called it “cringe AF” and said the act of wasting food while having the crew eat from the floor was “disgusting.”

At the same time, some defended Perry, noting that she likely paid for the cake and could do as she pleased. “Perry likely paid handsomely for the cake meaning she’s allowed to whatever she wants with it,” one X user said.

Another added, “Katy Perry probably decided there was NO way she was going to risk eating that cake or letting anyone in her crew risk it, so, there you go. If I were a celeb, I’d NEVER eat anything sent to me by a ‘fan.’”

In the video, Perry appears unbothered by the backlash, laughing as backup dancers picked up pieces of the destroyed cake from the floor.
