Keith Urban Sparks Speculation with Apparent Jab at Ex Nicole Kidman on ‘The Road’
Keith Urban appeared to reference his difficult marriage to Nicole Kidman during the premiere of his new show The Road on Sunday.
The series follows 12 up-and-coming musicians competing to become Urban’s opening act while he tours across the U.S.
During the episode, the 57-year-old singer performed Straight Line from his latest album, High. Earlier this year, Urban explained on Instagram that the song is about “wanting to break out of a soul-sucking routine that you might be stuck in.”
He added, “Maybe in a relationship, a job, with creativity, with yourself … whatever it is!!” The artist said the track was meant to convey “feeling alive again and getting out from under that dark cloud.”
Urban described Straight Line as the opening track of the album because “it represents an energy and spirit that became a through line of the whole record.” He also told fans the album would cover many emotions, but that “a very human spirit runs through them all.”
On the show, Urban spoke about the challenges of life on tour, saying it can be “lonely and miserable” at times. He emphasized that the performance must continue regardless of personal struggles.
News of the end of Urban and Kidman’s 19-year marriage broke in late September. A source told Page Six, “Sometimes relationships just run their course,” and added that Kidman, 58, “did not want the separation and was trying to save things.” The actress filed for divorce the next day. The couple shares two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
Following the split, rumors have circulated that Urban may have been involved with his guitarist Maggie Baugh, though nothing has been confirmed.
