Kevin Durant Calls Clapping Back at X Trolls His Morning Boost
Kevin Durant, one of the NBA’s biggest stars, is known for his incredible skill on the court. With two NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, a league MVP award, and 15 All-Star selections, he’s widely considered one of the greatest players of all time.
Yet, despite all his achievements, Durant has a surprisingly relatable habit: he enjoys sparring with X trolls.
In a recent episode of the Netflix docuseries Starting 5, Durant explained why he spends time responding to online critics.
According to him, it’s about the simple pleasure of making people who try to critique him look foolish. He described the practice as a “dopamine hit.” “That’s my coffee in the morning … people who have never picked up a basketball … never ran full speed in their life … and they tell you how to approach the game … you can’t even make your high school team … Shut yo a** up,” Durant said.
He added that when he isn’t getting that boost from playing basketball, X becomes a way to stay engaged. “When I can’t get that little dopamine hit from playing, I’m definitely getting it from that Twitter,” he explained.
Durant also pointed out that many people seek his attention without really understanding what that means. “A lot of people want my attention. I don’t think they truly want my attention. And so, I put ’em on the big screen so they can realize … it’s not always what it’s cracked up to be.”
While some might view this behavior as petty, Durant sees it as a fun and harmless way to engage with fans and critics alike.
It’s interesting to see a superstar like Durant approach social media so casually. Even elite athletes find small, everyday pleasures in life, and his honesty about enjoying the back-and-forth with trolls makes him more human. What do you think about Durant using X this way?
