Rumors about the MCU rebooting have been floating around for nearly three years now. As the Multiverse Saga moved forward, it became pretty clear that Marvel was gearing up for a fresh start.

With so many heroes already in the mix and new ones like the Fantastic Four and X-Men ready to join, it didn’t seem like things could just keep going the way they had been.

The biggest clue came when Marvel announced that the final movie of Phase 6 would be Secret Wars. Fans of the comics know this story usually means the multiverse collapses, different realities crash into each other, and everything basically resets.

Now, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has officially confirmed that this is exactly what’s happening.

At a press event for The Fantastic Four: First Steps — the movie kicking off Phase 6 — Feige shared some insight about what’s next for the MCU. He said, “We’re utilizing [Secret Wars] not just to round out the stories we’ve been telling post-Endgame, just as importantly — and you can look at the Secret Wars comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future.” He also pointed out that while Avengers: Endgame was about endings, “Secret Wars is about new beginnings.”

Feige was cautious about the word “reboot,” calling it “a scary word” since it can mean different things to different people. But he did explain that Marvel is thinking more along the lines of a reset or moving toward a single timeline.

He also confirmed that the new X-Men movie, directed by Jake Schreier, will be the real start of this new phase. The MCU will introduce new versions of classic mutants like Professor X, Magneto, and Cyclops, saying goodbye to the Fox versions through Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Feige even hinted that some other big roles might be recast after Secret Wars. He compared these characters to icons like James Bond or Superman, who have had many actors over time. But he admitted it’s not easy to replace a beloved actor, saying, “How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps officially kicks off Phase 6 on July 25, 2025. After that, Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters in July 2026, Avengers: Doomsday arrives in December 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will close the chapter in December 2027.

Kevin Feige’s update makes it clear that the MCU is ready to change things up. The multiverse may be ending, but a new Marvel universe is just getting started.
