Marvel’s Fantastic Four are finally in the MCU, and they’re not wasting any time jumping into the action. After their debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the team is set to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, a movie that brings together the Avengers, the X-Men, and now Marvel’s First Family.

In an interview with Marvel.com, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige opened up about how the Fantastic Four will fit into this growing universe and what fans can expect when these very different heroes start sharing screen time.

Feige is clearly excited about what’s coming. “It’s a thrill to see that interaction,” he said. “And it’s surreal for me, who’s been around for 25 years.”

The team, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), made their debut in a world very different from the one we’ve seen in the MCU so far. Set in an alternate universe, Earth-828, First Steps has a retro-futuristic 1960s look and feel. That unique vibe, according to Feige, is something they had always wanted to explore.

Now that they’re officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s time to bring them into the larger fold. And Avengers: Doomsday seems like the perfect place to do that. The movie is set to bring together not just the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, but also the original X-Men cast, making it one of the biggest Marvel crossover events yet.

Feige said that one of the best parts of any Avengers film is watching characters with totally different personalities meet and work together. “The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along,” he said. In Doomsday, those interactions are going to be even more chaotic and exciting.

Feige shared how the Baxter Building, the headquarters of the Fantastic Four, is going to play a big role in the movie. In First Steps, only a few characters were in that space. But in Doomsday, it’s going to be packed. “That’s always fun. The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along. In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in the Fantastic Four movie. And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it [in Doomsday]. It’s a thrill to see that interaction. And it’s surreal for me, who’s been around for 25 years.” he said.

That means viewers can expect some fun and possibly chaotic moments as characters like Iron Man’s successor, mutants, and cosmic heroes all find themselves under the same roof as Marvel’s First Family.

For Feige, bringing the Fantastic Four into the MCU wasn’t just a long-time goal, it was personal. He’s been vocal in the past about how much he values the team’s place in Marvel history. He explained how they were central to many comic storylines, even ones that inspired the Infinity Saga. “The truth is they have been a missing element for years. No Marvel universe is complete without Marvel’s First Family,” he said.

He also talked about the joy of being able to finally make a Fantastic Four movie set in a world that felt true to Jack Kirby’s original vision. The production design was heavily inspired by Kirby’s art and imagination. “The Silver Surfer and the way she moves is a testament to some of his line work and his story work,” Feige explained.

That same creativity is now spilling into Doomsday, with the team’s look and tone standing out even as they mix with characters from more modern parts of the MCU.

Feige didn’t give away plot details, but it’s clear that Avengers: Doomsday will be about more than just big battles. It’s also about letting these characters collide, sometimes literally, as the film deals with multiversal threats.

“In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes,” he said.

It’s safe to say fans of the Fantastic Four won’t have to wait long to see them take center stage in the MCU. With Doomsday on the way, the team is about to be at the heart of Marvel’s biggest story yet.
