Kevin Feige Says ‘Avengers Secret Wars’ Will Give the MCU a Simpler New Universe
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has spent years stretching across timelines, variants, and interconnected shows that even devoted fans have struggled to keep straight. For a franchise that once thrived on the simplicity of one team assembling to fight one big threat, the sprawl of the Multiverse Saga has become something of a running joke among viewers who feel like keeping up now requires homework.
That frustration has not gone unnoticed inside Marvel Studios either. The studio’s Marvel Studios president has been doing an unusually heavy amount of press this week, timed around the release of a major trailer and an upcoming Comic Con presentation.
According to a widely shared post from the account DiscussingFilm, Kevin Feige addressed the future of the franchise directly, saying that ‘Avengers Secret Wars’ will introduce a new universe that is easier for audiences to follow. He described the plan in blunt terms, explaining that the film will establish a streamlined, simplified, single universe that is easier to track, with some elements feeling familiar while many others will be entirely new.
Feige elaborated further, saying Secret Wars will represent a beginning rather than just an ending, and that the studio’s push to attract younger audiences and connect with a new generation is exactly what this next chapter of the MCU is designed to do. He also indicated that the X-Men will sit at the core of that next phase.
The comments arrive as Marvel prepares for ‘Avengers Doomsday,’ which is expected to bring together a sprawling multiverse crossover before ‘Secret Wars’ wipes away many of the messier threads currently running through the franchise. Feige has stopped short of calling the plan a reboot, instead pointing to Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 comic run as the blueprint the studio intends to follow.
The timing lines up with a massive moment for Marvel’s marketing machine, as the first full trailer for ‘Avengers Doomsday’ reportedly pulled in 503 million views within its first 24 hours, making it the second biggest trailer launch of all time behind ‘Spider-Man Brand New Day’ according to MovieWeb. Feige’s remarks came just ahead of this week’s Hall H presentation, where fans are expecting even more clarity on what comes next.
‘Avengers Doomsday’ is currently set to open in theaters on December 18th, with ‘Avengers Secret Wars’ following on December 17th, 2027. Marvel has not confirmed a full slate beyond Secret Wars, but projects like ‘Black Panther 3,’ ‘Nova,’ and ‘Shang-Chi 2’ are reportedly already in development, and Feige has suggested the studio’s plans stretch as far out as 2042.
