Kevin Feige Teases ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ as a Collision Where Heroes May Have To Fight Each Other

Marvel Studios has spent years building toward this moment, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ is shaping up as the biggest test of the Multiverse Saga. The film arrives on December 18, and every new comment from the people behind it gets picked apart by fans. Now Kevin Feige’s description of the movie’s central conflict is drawing fresh attention online.

The stakes have been growing since Robert Downey Jr. walked onto the Hall H stage as Doctor Doom. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing, and the film brings together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Marvel reportedly moved the release from May to December because the film couldn’t be finished in time.

That December date puts it in a head-to-head with ‘Dune: Part Three’, which fans have jokingly dubbed “Dunesday”. Marvel has already been rolling out special screens for its release, while Warner Bros. locked down IMAX for its rival. Against that backdrop, Feige’s latest tease carries extra weight.

He went on to ask whether the heroes will kill each other to protect their own worlds, or find a way to work together to save all 3.

Feige contrasted the film directly with ‘Avengers: Endgame’. In that movie, everyone was united against Thanos, whereas this time the situation is even more precarious. The heroes are not just facing a villain but also each other.

That framing marks a shift for the franchise. Previous team-ups flirted with internal conflict, but rarely as the central premise. With Doctor Doom also expected to intervene, the film promises a much messier moral puzzle.

ComicBasics reported that the collision involves heroes from Earth-616, the Fantastic Four’s Earth-828 and a separate universe housing the X-Men. That would bring together characters who have never shared a reality on screen. Marvel has not confirmed any of the widely circulating plot leaks, so fans should treat those with caution.

Feige also confirmed the main influences on the story. He said ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ were largely inspired by Jonathan Hickman’s comic storylines ‘Time Runs Out’ and ‘Secret Wars’, and that the comics naturally provide significant guidance for the films. In those stories, incursions between worlds force the heroes into impossible choices about which universe survives.

That connection helps explain the tone Feige is describing. The Hickman comics feature the Illuminati weighing whether to destroy entire worlds to save their own, which is far darker than a standard superhero brawl. If the movie sticks close to that material, audiences can expect real dilemmas.

The scale of the production matches the ambition. The cast reportedly includes more than 50 actors, and the film is said to run roughly 165 minutes. The screenplay is credited to Michael Waldron, Stephen McFeely, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Fan reaction has been intense, and the timing is telling. Feige’s remarks first surfaced after the initial trailer, and they have resurfaced now as the release date approaches. Each tease adds to the sense that the film is a very high-stakes event.
