‘Kevin’ Star Aubrey Plaza Steps Back Into the Spotlight To Cheer on Christopher Abbott at ‘East of Eden’ Premiere
Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott have always kept their relationship refreshingly low-key, rarely offering the public more than the occasional glimpse. That privacy only deepened this summer as the couple began an exciting new chapter as parents. Now, Aubrey Plaza has made a quiet but meaningful return to the red carpet to support her partner on a big night for his career.
The pair’s connection goes back years. They first worked together in summer 2019 on the indie movie ‘Black Bear’, which they took to the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020. They later appeared together in the 2023 to 2024 off-Broadway revival of ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea’.
On Wednesday, September 30, Plaza attended the New York premiere of Abbott’s new Netflix limited series ‘East of Eden’ at The Plaza Hotel. The event marked her first public appearance since the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in late July.
The 42-year-old kept her look sleek and understated, wearing a long black coat over a sheer black top and matching skirt. Photos from the night show her with her dark hair falling in loose, natural waves.
Interestingly, the couple didn’t pose together for photographers. They arrived together but took turns on the carpet, with Plaza sharing a smile before heading off and Abbott taking his moment next. Abbott instead celebrated the premiere alongside co-stars Florence Pugh, Mike Faist, and Joseph Zada.

The premiere was a major milestone for the actor. Abbott plays Adam Trask in the series, Netflix’s new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel. Pugh’s Cathy Ames sits at the center of the story, with her life intertwined with generations of the Trask family.
It has been a remarkable year for Abbott overall. He earned a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for portraying Biff Loman in the Broadway revival of ‘Death of a Salesman’. He was also revealed as Professor Charles Xavier in Marvel’s upcoming ‘X-Men’ reboot during the studio’s D23 presentation in August.
The couple’s journey to this moment has unfolded mostly out of view. A representative for Plaza confirmed on April 7 that she was expecting her first baby with Abbott. Just 2 days later, they made their first public appearance as a couple at an after-party for the Broadway opening of ‘Death of a Salesman’.

Their official red carpet debut followed at the Tony Awards in early June. Plaza joined Abbott in a black-and-white Chanel dress that showed her baby bump, and she had revealed ahead of the birth that they were expecting a girl.

Since their daughter’s arrival, the couple has remained notably quiet. Neither Plaza nor Abbott has spoken publicly about welcoming their baby, though the arrival was confirmed in August when Plaza was seen carrying her newborn around New York City. Back in April, she had spoken about how much she was looking forward to motherhood.
That approach seems to have carried over to the premiere. Rather than turning the evening into a joint couple moment, Plaza let Abbott’s work take center stage, choosing to support him without stealing the spotlight.

For fans of the ‘Parks and Recreation’ alum, the appearance was a welcome sight. It also offered a reminder that some of Hollywood’s most intriguing couples prefer to let their careers, not their private lives, do the talking.
What do you think of Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott’s low-key approach to their relationship?
