Khloe Kardashian Opens up About Living With This Chornic Condition
Reality star Khloe Kardashian recently opened up about her ongoing struggle with sarmassophobia, a deep-seated and often overwhelming fear of entering new romantic relationships.
During an episode of her podcast, Khloe In Wonder Land, the Good American co-founder sat down with her sister Kim Kardashian to discuss why she has remained single for so long. Khloe admitted that the very idea of dating again is incredibly daunting, noting that she has essentially closed herself off to protect her emotional well-being.
The mother of two explained that her fear has likely intensified following the high-profile and painful breakups with her ex-husband, Lamar Odom, and the father of her children, Tristan Thompson.
Khloe confessed that the thought of getting back out there is just terrifying to her, adding that she has found a sense of safety in her current solitude. She told Kim that she hated how she felt before and has no desire to return to that state of emotional turbulence, even if it means staying alone for the foreseeable future.
During the candid “sister chat,” Khloe acknowledged that while she feels secure now, she realizes she can’t live like this forever. She expressed a genuine fear about the vulnerability required for a relationship, asking Kim if her hesitation even made sense to the outside world. Kim, who is currently 45, offered her own surprising update, revealing that she is also not dating anyone at the moment. The SKIMS mogul explained that she is completely devoted to her law studies and simply doesn’t have the time or energy for a romantic life right now.
Khloe’s admission follows her revelation late last year that she had not been intimate with anyone in over three years. Her last significant relationship was with NBA player Tristan Thompson, with whom she shares her seven-year-old daughter, True, and three-year-old son, Tatum. Despite the challenges of their past, the two continue to navigate the complexities of co-parenting, which Khloe has frequently cited as her top priority over finding a new partner.
To provide some perspective on the condition, Beverly Hills psychologist Dr. Bruce Levine noted that sarmassophobia—the fear of “love play” or romantic intimacy—is a common defensive mechanism after multiple heartbreaks. He explained that people who have been repeatedly hurt often redirect their energy entirely toward their careers or children to avoid further pain.
Dr. Levine suggested that when Khloe is ready, a gradual re-entry into social situations through non-committal daytime coffee dates or cognitive-behavioral therapy could help her address the root causes of her anxiety.
As of this year, Khloe Kardashian is keeping her focus primarily on her business ventures and her expanding presence in the podcasting world. Her series Khloe In Wonder Land has become a weekly staple for fans, featuring deep dives into everything from conspiracy theories to intimate family secrets.
While she has reportedly been approached for various acting roles, she recently stated that it isn’t really what I want to put my energy into right now, preferring to produce behind the scenes. She is currently executive producing a new Hulu reality project titled Calabasas: Behind the Gates, which aims to explore the lives of those within her gated community.
Kim Kardashian is also reaching a major milestone this year, having recently celebrated her graduation from her law office study program after six years of intense preparation. She is now eligible to sit for the California bar exam, a goal she has been working toward since 2018.
While the sisters continue to film their flagship series The Kardashians for Hulu, their individual paths this year seem to be defined by a shift toward professional authority and personal healing rather than the romantic headlines of their past.
Do you think taking a multi-year break from dating is a healthy way to heal after a public breakup, or does it make it harder to eventually re-enter the dating world? Share your thoughts in the comments.
