Kit Harington Says Kissing Sophie Turner in a New Movie Was ‘Odd’ After Years as Stark Siblings
Kit Harington says filming romantic scenes with Sophie Turner in their new horror movie felt strange, and he explained why during an interview with E! News.
The two actors spent almost ten years playing siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” which ended in 2019. Last fall they reunited for the movie “The Dreadful,” but stepping into a love story together was not easy for either of them.
Harington told E! News that Turner sent him the script first. He said, “She was one that sent that movie to me and somehow didn’t see what I saw in it. I was like, ‘These guys, these are lovers, right?’ I felt very odd about that.”
He joked that he even had to stand on an apple box to kiss her because she is much taller, saying it was a bit embarrassing but still fine. Harington also shared that once they were on set, their friendship clicked back into place. “What was lovely is that we got on set together and our friendship completely ignited again. It felt like being with family. It really did.”
Turner talked about the experience earlier in the year on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” She explained she didn’t realize how many kissing scenes were in the script until after she sent it to Harington.
She said, “So, I sent the script to Kit, and he kind of sent me a message back going like, ‘Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really fu**** weird, Soph.’” Turner said she didn’t understand at first, but when she looked again and saw all the intimate scenes, she thought, “Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.” She added that when the time came to film their first kiss, both of them struggled. “We are both retching. Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst.”
“The Dreadful,” written and directed by Natasha Kermani, is set in the 15th century. The story follows Anne, played by Turner, and her mother-in-law who live away from society. When a man from Anne’s past, played by Harington, appears again, her life takes a dark turn. The film also features Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O’Fuarain and Jonathan Howard.
