‘Klara and the Sun’ Star Jenna Ortega Serves Smoky, Retro-Tinged Glam in New Close-up Photos

Jenna Ortega has spent the past few weeks on a whirlwind international press tour, and her fashion and beauty choices have been grabbing nearly as much attention as the film she is promoting. The 24-year-old ‘Wednesday’ star is out in front of ‘Klara and the Sun’, Taika Waititi’s adaptation of the bestselling novel by Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro.

In the film, Ortega plays Klara, an Artificial Friend who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home. The tour has already taken her through the London Film Festival before she jetted to Italy for the 21st Rome Film Festival at the Auditorium Parco della Musica on Saturday, October 17.

The day after her Rome appearances, a new pair of close-up photos of Ortega began circulating on X. The candid, indoor shots capture her mid-glam, offering a much more intimate look than the polished red carpet images from the festival.

In both frames, she wears a smoky, winged eye with a dark lash line, a glossy nude-pink lip, and a dewy complexion. Her long brunette hair is teased into voluminous, face-framing waves with a retro lift at the crown, and the second photo shows her glancing over a bare shoulder in an ivory, thin-strapped look with an open back.

The styling appears to echo her premiere outfit in Rome, where she changed into an ivory abstract floral print gown from the Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2027 collection. That sleeveless dress featured metallic gold and green accents, a plunging neckline, and open crossed-back detailing.

Ortega made the most of her time at the festival. For the daytime photocall alongside Waititi, she pulled a Spring 1966 mod dress from Pierre Cardin’s archives, featuring the designer’s well-known bullseye motif.

She paired that vintage piece with a slightly retro updo, cream-colored pointed heels and a bold red lip for a ’60s-inspired feel. Fashion watchers saw the choice as a clever nod to her role, using Space Age fashion to promote a futuristic story about artificial intelligence.

For the evening screening, she finished the Roberto Cavalli gown with Dolce & Gabbana platform sandals and Damiani jewelry. Complex shared photos of her look from the screening, which quickly made the rounds.

The new photos also highlight a beauty change that had already sparked conversation earlier in the week. Fans noticed that Ortega had moved away from her bleached brows in favor of a darker, more defined look during the ‘Klara and the Sun’ press tour.

The shift became a talking point online, with many people commenting on how different she looked. Ortega didn’t address the chatter, but her sister, Aliyah Ortega, stepped in and supported a post urging people to let Jenna live her life on her own terms.

In these latest close-ups, the fuller brows pair with the smoky eye to create a softer, more classic look than the striking bleached-brow era fans saw at events like this year’s Golden Globes.

The press tour comes as ‘Klara and the Sun’ receives a mixed reaction. Variety critic Guy Lodge praised Ortega’s efforts to bring light to the material, while arguing that Waititi’s choice to play the story for whimsical comedy didn’t serve the adaptation.

Regardless of the reviews, Ortega’s promotional run has kept her firmly in the spotlight. Between archival couture, bold beauty changes, and candid snapshots like these, she continues to prove why she remains one of the most closely watched style stars of her generation.
