Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe, best known for the role of Maximus in Ridley Scott’s epic historical drama Gladiator joined Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Kraven the Hunter, an upcoming superhero movie set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), according to The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive report.
Sony isn’t messing around when it comes to fully establishing their own Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although they’re still far from Disney, the latest MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home opened up numerous new possibilities for both MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe kicked off with Venom in 2018. Starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Venom already earned a sequel last year, and the third installment is already in development. The next SSU movie — Morbius — starring Jared Leto, is set to be released on April 1, 2022, after being delayed seven times already from its initial release date, which was in July 2020.
It was recently revealed that Dakota Johnson will also join the SSU in the upcoming movie Madame Web, in which she’ll play the titular role. Kraven the Hunter movie starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who played Quicksilver in MCU’s Avengers: Age of Ultron) is in active development with J.C. Chandor attached to direct. Kraven the Hunter is set to be released in January 2023.
Crow is best known for the role of Maximus in Gladiator, for which he won an Academy Award. He also played Jor-El, Superman’s father in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Crowe’s role in Kraven the Hunter is still undisclosed, but we cannot wait for the upcoming MCU movie Thor: Love and Thunder, in which Crowe will play Zeus.
