Kristen Stewart Breaks All the Rules, Poses in Barely-There Top for Architectural Digest Shoot

Kristen Stewart has a big new project, and it isn’t a movie. She recently bought the old Highland Theatre in Los Angeles. This building has been around since 1925 and used to be a place for live shows and movies, but it closed down in 2024. Now, Stewart wants to bring it back to life.

She told Architectural Digest that she didn’t even know she wanted a theater until she saw this one. Stewart said that as soon as she heard about it, it was like a gunshot went off and the race was on. She has always loved old, broken-down theaters and the secrets they might be hiding inside.

Stewart wants the Highland to be more than just a place to watch films. She wants it to be a spot where people can get together and dream up new ideas. She explained that she wants to create a place for the local community, saying it is not just for pretentious Hollywood cinephiles. She sees the theater as a way to fight back against big corporate movie culture and give people something more personal.

The building is in rough shape and will take a lot of work to fix. Stewart plans to keep the old style from Hollywood’s Golden Age but also add new things for the neighborhood. She believes that there’s a way to bring the building back to life in a way that embraces its history.

Stewart is a local who grew up in the San Fernando Valley. She says she loves Los Angeles because it feels like a group of different neighborhoods joined together. She likes how much space there is and says that LA gets a bad rap for being unserious, but there’s so much art and culture here.

Even though she loves her city, she is worried about the homeless crisis. She works closely with the Downtown Women’s Center, which helps women on Skid Row. Stewart mentioned that LA is drowning in inadequacy in our response to homelessness. She wants to use her voice to help people who are struggling.

When it comes to the future of movies and the city, Stewart thinks things need to change. She said the industry needs to stop doing the same things over and over and start helping those in need. She believes that making films is a political act because you have to choose how to use your voice.

In Los Angeles, homelessness is a major issue that Stewart is passionate about. Recent data shows that about 75,000 people are homeless in Los Angeles County. Within this group, Black residents make up about 31% of the homeless population, even though they are only 9% of the total county population. Stewart is using her new theater and her fame to try and make a difference in her community.
