Krystal Versace Transforms Into the ‘Gremlins’ Bride Greta for Halloween
Halloween has turned into a full-blown runway for drag stars, and the most elaborate looks often come from the queens who treat the holiday like a design challenge. ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ winner Krystal Versace has made movie-inspired costumes a bit of a tradition, including a ‘Batman Returns’ Catwoman look at an event in Manila.
Krystal, who is from Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent, won the third series of ‘Drag Race UK’ in 2021. She made history as the youngest winner in the franchise, beating Ella Vaday and Kitty Scott-Claus in the final.
This year, she chose one of horror-comedy’s most memorable characters. Krystal Versace transformed into Greta, the bride from ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’, sharing photos that were picked up by The XO Show on X.
The look combines a sculpted prosthetic creature face and pointed ears with a mane of curly blonde hair. She completes it with a white satin wedding gown, a lace collar, a sheer lace-trimmed veil, and a pearl-studded headpiece.

In the full-length photo, she poses against a pink curtain backdrop with fog drifting around the hem of her dress, holding a bouquet of red, orange, and white flowers. A close-up shows off the detail in the face, from the textured creature skin to the toothy grin. Greta is the only female gremlin in ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’, Joe Dante’s 1990 sequel to ‘Gremlins’. Fans also know her as the Lady Gremlin or the Girl Gremlin.
In the film, she’s created when a gremlin drinks a genetic serum in the Splice O’ Life lab inside the Clamp Center, a high-tech skyscraper in Manhattan. She ends up as the last surviving gremlin and corners security chief Frank Forster, played by Robert Picardo, on the building’s top floor before enticing him to marry her.
Reports say her design was inspired by 1980s glamour divas. Her wedding look at the end of the film became so iconic that NECA later released a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive figure of the moment. Krystal isn’t the first star to take on Greta. Megan Thee Stallion previously dressed as the character, and Jade Thirlwall paired her version with Gizmo as a groom.
Belinda also wore a Greta look last year, complete with green scales, bold lips, and dramatic lashes. The character’s mix of creature design and over-the-top glamour makes her a natural fit for performers who love a dramatic transformation.
Since winning ‘Drag Race UK’, Krystal has stayed busy. She appeared in a drag performance video for Charli XCX’s “Good Ones,” performed on Ant & Dec’s ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ and released the single “We Werk Together” with Ant & Dec, The Vivienne and Lawrence Chaney.
She later returned as a special guest on the show’s fourth series and starred in her own reality series, ‘Keeping Up with Krystal Versace’. Her Halloween looks show that her taste for bold, character-driven drag is as strong as ever.
Many celebrity costumes stick close to the original film, but Krystal’s version adds her own glossy, editorial polish. The detailed prosthetics show how much work went into the look. More than 3 decades after ‘Gremlins 2’ hit theaters, Greta remains a Halloween favorite. Krystal’s take is one of the most polished versions yet.
