‘Landman’s Big Win Scores a Season 2 at Paramount+

Hey, good news for us TV watchers—Paramount+ just gave the green light to a second season of ‘Landman.’ If you haven’t caught it yet, it’s that gritty drama about the oil rigs and wildcat billionaires of West Texas, created by Taylor Sheridan. The guy knows how to hook us with a story, and this one’s no exception.
The first season wrapped up on January 12, and it’s been a hit. We’re talking huge numbers—Paramount says the premiere pulled in 35 million viewers worldwide. That’s the biggest debut they’ve had in two years. The finale also smashed records as the most-watched end to any series on the platform. No wonder they’re bringing it back.
So, what’s ‘Landman’ about? It digs into the lives of roughnecks working the rigs and the rich folks chasing fortunes in the oil game. It’s based on a podcast called Boomtown, and it’s got this upstairs-downstairs vibe—showing both the sweaty grind and the big-money schemes. The cast is stacked too, with names like Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and Ali Larter lighting up the screen.
The show kicked off in November and kept climbing the charts. According to Nielsen data, it landed at number 8 for streaming originals in the last few months of 2024. Paramount+ boss Chris McCarthy even said it’s pushing the service to new heights, alongside other hits like ‘Tulsa King’ and ‘Lioness.’ Thornton’s work got him a Golden Globe nod too, which says a lot.
Behind the scenes, Sheridan teamed up with Christian Wallace to make it happen, and they’re both executive producers. You’ve also got folks like David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, and Dan Friedkin in the mix, with MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios producing. Oh, and Deadline mentioned a casting call in Fort Worth, so season 2 might already be gearing up.
I’m betting we’ll see more of that raw West Texas energy when it drops. No word yet on when filming starts or when it’ll hit our screens, but with how fast this train’s moving, it might not be too long.
