Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre have carried that balance as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, an odd-couple pairing of grizzled veteran and skeptical rookie that critics have singled out as the show’s biggest strength.

The clip is tagged with the phrase “Founder of the Lanterns,” a tease that suggests the series is preparing to dig into the origins of the Green Lantern Corps itself rather than staying confined to its Nebraska murder investigation.

Given how heavily the show has already leaned on Guardians of the Universe lore and Sinestro’s fraught history within the Corps, a tease framed around the organization’s founding feels like a natural next step. It also lines up with the show’s overall approach so far, which has consistently used small, grounded character moments to unlock much bigger pieces of DC’s cosmic mythology.

That pacing has drawn some criticism from reviewers eager to binge through the mystery, even as most have praised the writing and performances driving it.
