‘Lanterns’ Shows New Image of Hal Jordan and John Stewart Together
A new image showing Hal Jordan and John Stewart from HBO’s upcoming series “Lanterns” has surfaced, giving fans another early look at the DC Universe show. The series comes from creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, and is based on the DC Comics Green Lantern characters.
According to information shared by HBO and DC Studios, “Lanterns” is set to be the third live-action TV series in the new DC Universe. The story follows two Green Lanterns as they work together on Earth to solve a murder case that slowly turns into something much bigger and darker.
The show is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, with Chris Mundy also serving as showrunner. The project went through a long development process, starting years ago under producer Greg Berlanti before being reshaped after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in 2022. The new version of the series was later confirmed in 2024 when HBO officially ordered it.

The cast includes Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, a veteran Green Lantern who is nearing the end of his career, and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, a newer recruit who is being trained by Jordan. The series also features Kelly Macdonald as a small-town sheriff named Kerry and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, another Green Lantern with a difficult personality.
Other cast members include Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, a former Green Lantern with a dark past, and several supporting roles that connect both Earth-based characters and intergalactic storylines.
Production details confirm that filming took place in Los Angeles between February and July 2025, with multiple directors involved across the episodes. The show is planned as an eight-episode season and is part of the DCU’s first chapter titled “Gods and Monsters.”
The story itself focuses on Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigating a murder in Nebraska. What starts as a local case soon leads them into deeper mysteries tied to the Green Lantern Corps and threats beyond Earth.
In interviews shared by HBO, showrunner Chris Mundy described John Stewart as a character with both military discipline and artistic thinking, saying Aaron Pierre brings both sides naturally to the role. Nathan Fillion also spoke about his character Guy Gardner, saying he is not the easiest Green Lantern to deal with in a crisis.
“Lanterns” is currently scheduled to premiere in August.
The new look has already sparked interest among DC fans, especially as the series moves closer to release and more details continue to surface.
This series feels like a fresh direction for the Green Lantern world. Mixing crime investigation with superhero storytelling is not something DC often focuses on, so it could stand out if done well. The cast also looks strong on paper, which adds to the curiosity around it. What do you think about this new take on Green Lantern? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
