‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ Season 28 Episode 2 Release Date, Time, Where to Watch and Preview

Share:

The next chapter of ‘Special Victims Unit’ arrives on Thursday, October 15, with an installment titled ‘Midway’. Reference listings give October 15, 2026 as the original release date for the episode. It follows a season opener titled ‘Volition’, which aired on October 8.

Viewers looking for the release date, air time and a first look at the case will find the details fairly settled. The synopsis puts Captain Curry at the center, as she looks into the disappearance of a boy at a carnival. This guide covers the schedule, the viewing options, the cast and what the story seems to hold.

Release Date and Time for ‘Midway’

‘Midway’ is the second hour of the new run and carries an October 15 date. Reference listings credit Kevin Deiboldt as the writer, while the director had not yet been named. That leaves the creative team partly unannounced as the date approaches.

NBC airs the series every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET. That places the new hour in the same slot the series has held for the season so far. Viewers on the West Coast should check local listings for their own start time.

The weeks after ‘Midway’ are already mapped out. The early schedule lists ‘Arcana’ for October 22 and ‘Anonymity’ for October 29. The full season is expected to run for 24 episodes, following the renewal NBC announced in April.

Where to Watch the Next Episode

The first stop for live viewing is NBC. The network carries new hours on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET. Anyone with an antenna or a cable package can watch without any extra subscription.

Streaming is the second option. New episodes become available on Peacock the following day. That makes Friday the natural catch-up point for viewers who miss the broadcast.

Peacock also matters for anyone who needs a refresher before the new season moves further along. The service hosts earlier seasons of the series, and the new episodes pick up from the fallout of the last finale. A quick return to that finale makes sense of where the squad stands.

The previous finale saw Benson gain the upper hand over Chief Kathryn Tynan after Detective Jake Griffin recorded the Chief admitting to a cover-up. That recording gave Benson the leverage she needed to protect herself and her team. It is the backdrop for every case this year.

Cast and Returning Characters

The core ensemble is largely intact. Mariska Hargitay returns as Captain Olivia Benson, alongside Ice-T as Sergeant Odafin Tutuola, Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominick Carisi Jr., and Kevin Kane as Detective Terry Bruno. Aimé Donna Kelly plays Captain Renee Curry, Corey Cott plays Detective Jake Griffin and Kelli Giddish plays Sergeant Amanda Rollins.

Fin should also be more visible this year. After a reduced presence in the previous season, Ice-T said he expects to appear in every episode of the new one. That is a notable shift for a character who spent long stretches away from the unit.

New faces are arriving as well. J. Smith Cameron and Jelani Alladin join the cast this season, along with guest star Jalen Brunson. Michele Fazekas continues as showrunner, following her appointment in the previous season.

Longtime viewers have a milestone to watch for as well. The season is set to include the series’ 600th episode, with Christopher Meloni expected to appear in it according to one report. That moment sits further down the schedule than ‘Midway’.

Episode Preview and the Case Facing Curry

The official synopsis says Curry investigates the disappearance of a boy at a carnival. Her inquiry uncovers a link to an earlier kidnapping, which leaves Benson facing a difficult decision. The setup suggests a case where the past reshapes the present.

The spotlight on Curry fits her recent trajectory. She emerged as one of the squad’s most tenacious investigators in the previous season. Putting her at the head of a missing child case gives Kelly a chance to carry an hour.

The tone may differ from the premiere. ‘Volition’ centered on a sexual assault case involving intoxication, consent and the question of whether a survivor can prove her account in court. Fazekas said the writers focused on how the law is written, and she wants that law to change. A missing child story moves toward urgency and moral pressure rather than courtroom argument.

Details beyond the synopsis remain thin, which leaves room for surprise. Benson’s choice, rather than the investigation alone, appears to be the emotional hinge of the hour. Do you think that decision will test her trust in Curry’s instincts, and would you have made the same call once the carnival case reached back to the earlier kidnapping?
