Leaked Video of ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Highlights Nostalgic Theme & Retro-Futuristic ’60s

One of the most exciting upcoming projects in the MCU is undoubtedly ‘Fantastic Four.’ The movie’s official title, ‘First Steps,’ was revealed at this year’s SDCC.

Based on earlier speculations and confirmations from the Hall H panel, we know that the team will already be established in the movie. ‘First Steps’ will not be an origin story for the characters.

It has been confirmed once again that the film will not be set on Earth-616 but in an alternate retro-futuristic reality of the 1960s. Matt Shakman revealed that he plans to make the Fantastic Four’s powers feel authentic by consulting scientists and animal experts. The film will present a futuristic twist on the 1960s setting and aesthetic, showcasing New York as a blend of the era’s style and something more.

A presentation video was also shown, which has since leaked online. As Disney is issuing copyright notices, the best way to share what was seen at SDCC is through the commentary video:

The footage, presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio to mimic retro television, begins with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) teaching a class and asking if they want to see an explosion. The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) appears as a silhouette on the dating show “Let’s Make a Match.” The team is then shown in astronaut suits, with their last names displayed, boarding a retro-futuristic rocket. As the rocket launches, the aspect ratio changes. The footage ends with a partial glimpse of Galactus’ comic-accurate face behind a building.

YouTube creator Thomas Luque has already recreated the theme heard during the presentation, and it’s seriously impressive:

During the presentation, it was also confirmed that the team will appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ Are you excited for the movie? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
