Lego’s New ‘Wednesday’ Backpack Set Is the Gothic Halloween Collectible Fans Didn’t Know They Needed

Netflix’s darkest teen hit has spent the past few years quietly building one of the more unexpected merchandising empires in recent memory, expanding well beyond typical action figures and posters. Between fashion collaborations and home decor lines, the brand has leaned hard into its gothic aesthetic for fans eager to bring a piece of Nevermore Academy into their own homes.

That expansion continues just in time for spooky season, with a new collectible aimed squarely at fans who want their favorite outcast’s signature accessory sitting on a shelf rather than just their screen.

LEGO has officially unveiled a new ‘Wednesday‘ backpack set, a 401-piece build inspired by Wednesday Addams’ iconic black bag from the Netflix series, arriving on October 1 for $44.99 in the US, or €39.99 in Europe. The gothic-styled display piece stands over 19 centimeters tall, 15 centimeters wide, and 8 centimeters deep once closed, giving fans a substantial piece of Nevermore Academy decor for their collection.

Designed with a mostly black color scheme accented by purple and silver-gray details, the set opens at the top to reveal a hidden miniature dorm room, complete with a functional storage compartment accessible through the front. The build even includes a Wednesday minidoll figure alongside her sentient companion, Thing, letting fans recreate small scenes from the show once construction is complete.

The backpack isn’t launching alone. LEGO is also releasing a companion set called ‘Nevermore Academy’ on the same October 1 date, an 890-piece microscale build priced at $69.99 that recreates the school itself, complete with a dorm room, principal’s office, and music room. Notably, that set includes LEGO’s first-ever actual Wednesday minifigure, alongside printed statue figures of both Wednesday and her roommate Enid.

Both releases are timed deliberately ahead of Halloween, giving fans of the show’s signature spooky aesthetic plenty of time to build and display their sets before the holiday arrives. The backpack set is aimed at builders aged nine and up, while the more intricate Nevermore Academy set targets fans ten and older given its larger piece count and architectural-style design.

The timing also reflects just how much cultural staying power ‘Wednesday’ has maintained since its 2022 debut. The Tim Burton-produced series, starring Jenna Ortega as the reclusive title character investigating supernatural mysteries at a school for outcasts, set Netflix’s record for the biggest first-week viewership of any English-language series at the time of its release and has remained a consistent pop culture presence ever since.

Both sets also support LEGO’s Builder app, allowing fans to access digital instructions, rotate 3D models while building, and track their progress as they piece together each Gothic display. For collectors already invested in the franchise’s expanding LEGO lineup, the backpack and academy sets are designed to be displayed together, building out a small but detailed corner of Nevermore’s eerie campus.

With Halloween decor season already ramping up, LEGO’s timing on these two releases feels far from accidental, giving fans a tangible way to celebrate the franchise’s gothic sensibility beyond another rewatch. Whether displayed side by side or purchased individually, both sets offer a distinctly moody addition to any shelf just in time for the spookiest month of the year.
