Leonardo DiCaprio Breaks Surprising Box Office Record with The Release of ‘One Battle After Another’
Leonardo DiCaprio continues to prove he can draw audiences to theaters, and his latest movie, One Battle After Another, has added another milestone to his career.
The film opened at number one in the U.S. and Canada this past weekend, earning $22.4 million. Worldwide, it made $48.5 million in just its first few days. Industry analysts had predicted the film would make between $20 million and $25 million in North America, though some had expected it could hit $30 million.

This latest success means DiCaprio has now had films debut at number one at the box office in four different decades, an achievement few actors can claim.
The journey started with Titanic in 1997. The James Cameron film opened on December 19, 1997, and quickly became a phenomenon.
On its first day, it earned $8.65 million and $28.6 million over its opening weekend from 2,674 theaters. Titanic topped the box office ahead of films like Mouse Hunt and Scream 2 and eventually set the record for the highest Christmas Day gross at the time, making $9.2 million.
DiCaprio’s next number-one opening came in 2006 with The Departed, directed by Martin Scorsese. The film went on to earn $132.4 million in the U.S. and Canada, and another $159 million internationally.
It debuted with $26.9 million in its first weekend and stayed strong for several weeks, making it one of the most successful films of that year.
In 2010, DiCaprio starred in Inception, which opened in over 3,700 theaters in North America, including 195 IMAX locations. The film made $21.8 million on its opening day, including midnight screenings, and $62.7 million over the weekend, taking the number-one spot at the box office.
According to Box Office reports, this was the second-highest opening for a science fiction film that was not a sequel, remake, or adaptation, behind James Cameron’s Avatar.
Now, with One Battle After Another, DiCaprio has shown remarkable longevity in Hollywood. We can certainly conclude that few actors have managed to remain box office draws across four decades like DiCaprio.
His career demonstrates not only his talent but also his ability to pick films that connect with audiences worldwide.
