Lily Allen is opening up about personal struggles in her new album, West End Girl, hinting at infidelity by her ex-husband, actor David Harbour.

The 14-track record, released Friday, features lyrics that suggest the breakdown of their marriage, though Allen does not explicitly name Harbour.

Several songs appear to reference betrayal and secret relationships. On “Dallas Major,” she sings about a partner being “open” while “going astray.” In “P*** Palace,” she reflects on discovering hidden adult toys, lube, and a large number of condoms, implying her partner led a double life.

I didn’t know it was your pussy palace, pu*** palace, pu*** palace, pu*** palace
I always thought it was a dojo, dojo, dojo
So am I looking at a s** addict, s** addict, s** addict, s** addict?
Oh, talk about a low blow, oh, no, oh, no
I didn’t know it was your p*** palace, p*** palace, pu*** palace, pu*** palace
I always thought it was a dojo, dojo, dojo
So am I looking at a s** addict, s** addict, s** addict, s** addict?
Oh, talk about a low blow, low blow, oh, no

[Verse 2]
I found a shoebox full of handwritten letters
From brokenhearted women wishing you could have been better
Sheets pulled off the bed, they’re strewn all on the floor
Long black hair, probably from the night before
Duane Reade bag with the handles tied
S** toys, b*** plugs, lube inside
Hundreds of Trojans, you’re so f**** broken
How’d I get caught up in your double life?

Pu*** Palace, West End Girl, Lily Allen

So I go by Dallas Major but that’s not really my name
You know I used to be quite famous, that was way back in the day
Yes, I’m here for validation and I probably should explain
How my marriage has been opened since my husband went astray

The track “4chan Stan” includes lyrics about a receipt for a designer handbag bought for another woman, with Allen questioning, “Why won’t you tell me what her name is? This is outrageous / What, is she famous?” Similarly, in “Tennis,” she writes about confronting her spouse over messages with a woman named Madeline, asking if the connection was purely s**** or emotional.

[Verse 1]
Daddy’s home for the first time in weeks
Got the dinner on the table, tell the kids it’s time to eat
And I made my baby’s favourite, but he didn’t seem to care
I just tell myself he’s jet lagged and I’m glad to have him here

[Pre-Chorus]
Then you showed me a photo on Instagram
It was how you grabbed your phone back right out of my hands

[Chorus]
So I read your text, and now I regret it
I can’t get my head ’round how you’ve been playing tennis
If it was just s**, I wouldn’t be jealous
You won’t play with me
And who’s Madeline?

I know none of this is your fault, messaging you feels kind of assaultive
Saw your text, that’s how I found out, tell me the truth and his motives
I can’t trust anything that comes out of his mouth
No, I can’t trust anything that comes out of his mouth

[Verse 2]
How long has it been going on? Is it just s** or is there emotion?
He told me it would stay in hotel rooms, never be out in the open
Why would I trust anything that comes out of his mouth?
Oh, why would I trust anything that comes out of his mouth?

[Chorus]
We had an arrangement
Be discreet and don’t be blatant
There had to be payment
It had to be with strangers
But you’re not a stranger, Madeline

Allen also explores the couple’s arrangement in her songs, highlighting expectations of discretion and encounters with strangers. In “Ruminating,” she expresses a desire to remain her partner’s “No. 1” despite these experiences, while “Sleepwalking” touches on a lack of romance in the marriage and mentions “girls in [his] bed.”

I’m giving up on getting sleep tonight
It’s 4 a.m. and I’m in fight or flight
Ruminating, ruminating, ruminating, ruminating (Ruminating, ruminating)
And I can’t shake the image of her naked
On top of you and I’m dissociated
Ruminating, ruminating, ruminating, ruminating (Ruminating, ruminating)
And I’m not hateful but you make me hate her
She gets to sleep next to my medicator
You’re mine, mine, mine, mine, you’re mine, mine, mine, mine
You’re mine, mine, mine, mine, you’re mine, mine, mine

Ruminating, West End Girl, Lily Allen

Course I’m angry, course I’m hurt
Looking back at it’s so absurd
Course I trusted you and took you at your word (At your word)
Who said romance isn’t dead? Been no romance since we wed
“Why aren’t we f**** baby?” Yeah, that’s what you said
But you let me think it was me in my head
And nothing to do with them girls in your bed

[Chorus]
You don’t stop talking and I’m just sleepwalking
See your thoughts forming, baby, stop it, it’s 3 in the morning
And I don’t know if you do it intentionally
But somehow you make it my fault
You don’t stop talking
And I’m just sleepwalking

In a previous interview with Perfect Magazine, Allen confirmed that the album draws from real-life events. “There are definitely some things that happened in my real life that are reflected on this record,” she said. “Two people who were once together are not together. And that’s really sad. It’s hard. It’s hard for me to not have my person, you know?”

Allen and Harbour married in 2020 but separated earlier this year.

Reports of their split surfaced in February, around the same time Allen disclosed that she had sought help at a treatment center to cope with emotional challenges.
