Linda Cardellini Eyes Chilling Role in A24’s ‘Crystal Lake’ – A ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel!
In 2022, a ‘Friday the 13th’ prequel series called ‘Crystal Lake’ was announced. It was originally being developed by Bryan Fuller and Victor Miller, with A24 producing and Peacock set to air it.
In January 2023, Adrienne King, who played Alice Hardy in the 1980 film, joined the cast in a secret role. Writing for the series began later that month, with Kevin Williamson contributing an episode.
However, in May 2024, Fuller was removed from the project as A24 decided to take a new creative approach. In August 2024, Brad Caleb Kane was named the new showrunner. The show is scheduled to premiere on Halloween 2025.
Now Jeff Sneider, a popular industry insider has potential news regarding the project. According to the report, actress Linda Cardellini is in discussions to portray Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother.
This news is significant because Pamela Voorhees is a key figure in ‘Friday the 13th’ lore. In the original 1980 film, she was the main antagonist, seeking revenge for the drowning of her son, Jason, due to the negligence of camp counselors.
Her character’s tragic backstory and descent into madness set the stage for Jason’s later rise as the franchise’s infamous masked killer.
Cardellini, known for her roles in ‘No Good Deed,’ ‘Dead to Me,’ ‘Freaks and Geeks,’ and ‘Scooby-Doo,’ would be stepping into an iconic horror role previously played by Betsy Palmer in the original film.
If the deal goes through we can expect ‘Crystal Lake’ to explore Pamela’s story and the events leading up to the original ‘Friday the 13th.’
