The third installment of NBC’s family thriller, titled “There Are Two Wolves,” aired on October 5 and was written by Diana Son. It pushes the Hollingsworths into a case that looks like simple jury intimidation and slowly reveals itself as something much larger. At the same time, it moves the story of Jack into a new phase.

This ‘Line of Fire’ recap and ending explained breakdown walks through each storyline and what the closing scenes suggest. The series, created by Joshua Safran, premiered on NBC on September 21 and follows a family of agents from several branches of federal law enforcement who become tangled in a deadly conspiracy. The latest hour shows how that conspiracy reaches into the court system itself.

How the Grand Jury Case Unravels

Russ and Clare race the clock to crack a grand jury tampering case. The investigation begins after juror Penelope Gonzalez dies, and a sprained ankle suggests she may have been running from someone before her fall. Investigators then notice that several other jurors had asked to be excused for unrelated reasons over the previous months.

One former juror admits she was paid to fake a relapse and get dismissed, and she says the man who paid her had a wolf tattoo. When the team arrests the tattooed man, he says he took anonymous instructions that included addresses and deadlines, which means he is muscle rather than the mastermind. That detail explains the episode title and keeps the real culprit out of reach.

A small clue breaks the case open when the same misspelling of a juror’s name appears in two places, which leads the team to the grand jury coordinator. She explains that her roommate had been asking questions about her work, so protected information was leaking out of the court system. An attempted fire at the hotel housing the remaining jurors then convinces the judge to discharge the panel entirely.

The Hollingsworths realize the timing is the key, since the jury began its work months before the intimidation started, so the case that matters may be one the jurors already heard. They find a name tied to an earlier money laundering investigation that also appears near an upcoming real estate fraud case. The emerging theory is that cartel money and money linked to wealthy Chinese nationals is moving through American real estate, and a fresh jury would never connect the two cases.

Mike and Micah Clash Over Secret Service Methods

Away from the courthouse, the episode gives Mike his own storyline. In a sneak peek shared exclusively by Collider, sirens sound over an infiltration alert at Eisenhower, and Micah’s team moves quickly to the stairwell. They find Mike sitting on the stairs with a stopwatch, and they were fast but not fast enough for his standards.

Mike is unhappy with how dependent younger agents have become on tablets, so he orders hand drawn diagrams, physical evaluations and training exercises. His point that technology fails is reasonable, but his delivery frustrates the team. The pressure escalates into a lockdown drill that tests communication during an active shooter scenario, with results added to each agent’s record.

Micah eventually tells his father that agents feel he is forcing changes without listening to them, and Mike at first thanks him and then keeps charging ahead. By the end of the hour Mike seems to understand that experience is only useful if he listens to the people who came after him. It is a quieter arc, though it gives the father and son a real point of friction.

Clare Keeps Digging Into Logan’s Past

The previous episode changed how Clare sees her late boyfriend. It ended with Detective Wallace telling her that Logan’s identity was backstopped and that he was an undercover CIA operator whose assignment was likely her. She dated him for six months and now has to wonder whether any of it was real.

Logan’s records are completely locked down, and Nia is warned repeatedly to stop digging. Clare instead thinks back to details he mentioned, including coastal North Carolina, Wilmington and spring trips there. The scraps are small, but they are all she has once the official channels close.

The show does not plan to answer these questions quickly. In an interview with TV Insider, Safran said the writers’ room was breaking the eleventh episode and was still dealing with stuff regarding Logan. He also said Clare will be dealing with her grief and what she learned for many episodes.

Jack’s Ending and the Dentist Office Job

The episode gives the character played by Charlie Barnett his own separate plot for the first time, and it shows Jack launching a new phase of his mysterious plan. He is secretly alive and operating under the alias David, and he lies his way into a job at a dentist office. The recap from The TV Cave notes that the job sits next to a CIA hideaway.

That placement matters because of what the audience already knows. In the pilot, Jack killed undercover CIA operative Logan Welling, and Mike had told Logan that his eldest son died years earlier. The same recap says Jack now has his sights set on Nia, who has been investigating Logan.

The ending suggests Jack is working toward the same people who are guarding Logan’s secrets, and Nia may be in his path. It also leaves open whether he is a threat to the family or something closer to a hidden guardian. Given how Clare keeps pulling at the Logan mystery, which side of Jack do you expect her to meet first once she reaches Wilmington?
