Long-Awaited ‘Red Sonja’ Reboot Secures UK Deal, Set for Release This Year
The long-awaited Red Sonja reboot has finally secured a deal in the UK, with plans for a release later this year. The film, which has been in development for years and spent two years in post-production, is now set to reach audiences in the UK and Ireland.

- Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy)
- Wallis Day (Sheroes)
- Michael Bisping (Den of Thieves)
- Luca Pasqualino (Snowpiercer)
- Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans)
- Martyn Ford (Final Score)
- Ben Radcliffe (Cuban Fury)
- Eliza Matengu (Predestination)
- Veronica Ferres (Crisis)
- Phillip Winchester (Strike Back)
- Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead)
Fans have been waiting for a Red Sonja reboot for decades. Different versions of the film have been in development for over 20 years, with various writers, directors, and producers involved at different times. The original Red Sonja movie, released in 1985, starred Brigitte Nielsen and became a cult classic.
The new version is produced by a team of industry veterans, including Avi Lerner (Rambo: Last Blood), Mark Canton (300), Courtney Solomon (After), Luke Lieberman (Max Steel), and others. The screenplay was written by Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin), with M.J. Bassett directing.
Begüm Kayacan Parodi, Acquisitions Manager at Signature Entertainment, shared her excitement about bringing Red Sonja to the UK and Irish audiences:
“Red Sonja epitomizes the kind of film we’re looking for at Signature – an epic story in a fantasy-laden world with a strong commercial feel to its execution, which made it immediately appealing to us. We’re looking forward to introducing UK and Irish audiences to Matilda Lutz’s sword-swinging huntress later this year.”
Millennium Media’s President of International Sales and Distribution, J.J. Nugent, also expressed enthusiasm about the UK deal:
“We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Signature Entertainment to bring Red Sonja to audiences in the UK. This franchise has a passionate global fanbase, and we can’t wait to deliver a film that honors its legacy while introducing the iconic characters to a new generation.”
With an exciting story, a talented cast, and years of anticipation, Red Sonja is finally on its way to audiences. Fans in the UK and Ireland can expect an action-packed adventure when the film is released later this year.
