Lorde Backs White Lotus Season 3’s Incest Twist, Says Fans Are “Too Prude”

Lorde is part of New York Magazine’s first “Culturati 50 Issue,” and during the interview she talked about the shows she kept up with this year.

The singer said she watched very little TV, but one series she never misses is The White Lotus. She told the magazine that she has seen every season and still looks forward to what creator Mike White does next.

Lorde didn’t try to hide her reaction to the newest season. She said she was excited by how bold the show went with its most talked-about storyline.

When asked about it, she said she actually enjoyed the controversial moment between the two brothers. In her own words, she said, “I loved the incest story line. I was like, ‘You guys are all prudes. Come on. Let’s go for it. Bring the teeth! Freak us out, Mike!’”

The storyline took place halfway through the season and involved two brothers who had been partying heavily. The next morning, one of them slowly realized that something happened between them while they were drunk.

He pieced together the night through brief memories and through what others told him the next day. Instead of reacting with concern, the people around him brushed it off. One of the girls even said, “Everyone has their thing – it’s fine.”

Many viewers felt this was the moment the show crossed a line. Fans said the scene made light of a serious issue and treated it like a wild party mistake instead of something harmful. People online argued that the storyline made the situation seem normal and casual when it involved two siblings who were not in control of themselves.

Critics also pointed out that the reactions on screen felt dismissive, which made the moment even more uncomfortable for them.

Even though both brothers later showed discomfort, some viewers felt the show didn’t explore their feelings enough. For many fans, it wasn’t the fact that the show included a shocking twist. The real problem was that the show handled it in a way that felt too relaxed and too quick, almost like it wasn’t a serious event. That is why the storyline sparked so much backlash.
