Lupita Nyong’o Owns The ‘The Odyssey’ Red Carpet, And Her Dual Role Explains The Whole Vibe

Christopher Nolan’s long awaited take on Homer’s ancient epic has officially begun its victory lap, and the press tour has been just as ambitious as the film itself. London’s Leicester Square has spent the past few days hosting one of the most star-studded rollouts of the summer, with the fashion coming out of it drawing nearly as much attention as the movie. Among a cast this massive, one name has quietly stolen the spotlight.

The cast, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland and Lupita Nyong’o, gathered in London ahead of the film’s July 17 release, alongside co-stars Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page and Samantha Morton. Damon leads as Odysseus on his perilous journey home from Troy, while Holland plays his son Telemachus and Robert Pattinson takes on the sleazy suitor Antinous. It is a lineup deep enough to fill an entire award season, yet Nyong’o has managed to stand out from the pack.

At the world premiere, Nyong’o surprised everyone by skipping Chanel entirely and stepping out in a Christian Cowan Fall 2026 silver mesh column gown paired with an 80s inspired beauty look. The oversized side openings hinted at exposure, but the fine crystal mesh kept the design feeling intriguing rather than revealing, an optical illusion the designer pulled off with real precision. It was a bold swing after a rollout full of quieter, more restrained choices.

That premiere moment followed an equally deliberate look just a day earlier. Nyong’o joined her co-stars for the London photocall in a Chanel Resort 2027 ivory wrap dress featuring bold black graphic trim, a choice that felt less about mythology and more about architectural precision. While the design balanced classic Chanel signatures with a more modern edge, its structure gave the look real strength while still staying light and effortless.

The contrast between her looks actually tracks with what she is doing on screen. Nyong’o takes on a dual role in ‘The Odyssey,’ portraying both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, two of Greek mythology’s most consequential women, with Helen remembered as the catalyst for the Trojan War and Clytemnestra known for her fierce presence in the saga’s aftermath. Playing two women defined by very different kinds of power seems to be echoed in how she has approached her own styling all week.

This was not her first strong showing of the tour either. Nyong’o kicked things off in New York with a fluid silver satin LaPointe ensemble trimmed in wispy feathers, paired with Jimmy Choo pumps and a snakeskin Brahmin bag, marking her first sustained promotional run since ‘The Wild Robot’ press cycle back in 2024. With the tour still set to hit Paris, Mumbai, Beijing and Seoul in the coming weeks, her red carpet choices are expected to remain one of the more closely watched threads of the entire campaign.

Between commanding two of mythology’s most complicated women on screen and turning every red carpet stop into its own statement, Nyong’o has made herself impossible to ignore this press cycle. Which look do you think captured Helen and Clytemnestra’s dueling energy best, the Christian Cowan gown or the Chanel photocall moment?
