Madame Web: Sony Created Official Social Media Accounts For The Upcoming Movie

Although Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is nowhere close to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, in terms of both quality and quantity, Sony is showing how serious they are in building their own movie universe focused on Marvel characters. So far, the Sonyverse counts two movies, 2018’s Venom and last year’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Although they both received mixed to negative reviews, they were both successful at the box office worldwide.

The third movie set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Morbius, is set to be released next week, and according to the first reviews, the third time won’t be the charm for Sony in creating an acclaimed Marvel movie. Still, regardless of how (un)successful Morbius might be, Sony is still going forward. The upcoming movie Kraven the Hunter just recently began production and it’s set to be released next January, and the Madame Web movie is also in active development, as Sony today created the official social media accounts for the movie. There are still no posts on the account, but it’s still too early for that.

Madame Web has been in development since 2019, but the movie began going forward last month when Dakota Johnson was accounted to play the titular role, and Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney also joined in an undisclosed role. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the screenplay, and S.J. Clarkson, who previously worked on Marvel shows The Defenders and Jessica Jones, is set to direct.

Not much is known about the upcoming movie, although some reports are saying that Sony wants to build a character as some sort of Sony’s Doctor Strange. We’re not entirely sure what that means, but if the plan succeeds, Dakota Johnson might have a long Marvel future in front of her.

The release date for Madame Web is still TBA.
