Madonna looked glamorous as she stepped out in Venice, Italy, alongside Julia Garner, who will play her in an upcoming biopic. The pop icon, 67, and Garner, 32, were spotted on the city’s famous Grand Canal, seemingly filming scenes for season two of the AppleTV+ series The Studio.

Fans got a glimpse of the pair during a photo shoot on a gondola, with both stars dressed in coordinated black-and-white striped shirts, black coats, and blue jeans.

Madonna’s look was striking, featuring a full face of makeup, red lipstick on her plump lips, and her blonde hair styled in ringlets that framed her face. She accessorized with fingerless baby blue gloves and carried a black handbag. Garner added a touch of flair with a wide-brimmed hat trimmed in red, which she alternated between wearing and placing on her lap during the shoot.

The role in The Studio marks Madonna’s return to acting after nearly two decades. Her last major part was a voice role in 2006’s animated film Arthur and the Invisibles, directed by Luc Besson. She also won a Golden Globe for her performance in the 1995 musical Evita. Her most recent live-action appearance was a cameo on a 2003 episode of Will & Grace.

The Studio, co-created by Seth Rogen, follows the hectic life of a studio executive. The series features a strong ensemble cast including Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Kathryn Hahn, and the late Catherine O’Hara. Madonna teased her involvement in the project last week on Instagram, posting a photo of herself looking through a script on a gondola with the caption, ‘The Italian Job.’

Garner will soon portray Madonna in the long-anticipated biopic about the pop superstar. The project has faced multiple delays but is moving forward.

In September 2025, Garner confirmed to W Magazine, “I can’t say too much about it, but yes, it’s a work in progress.” Madonna has been actively involved in shaping the film, which she initially developed under the title Little Sparrow with Diablo Cody. In 2024, she rewrote the screenplay with Erin Cressida Wilson and targeted Garner for the role.

Madonna has been open about the challenges in bringing her life story to the screen. On Instagram, she wrote, “After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film, I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged. I’ve been working on it for 4 years… No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful… It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way.”

Madonna and Garner’s Venice appearance, filled with style and glamour, gave fans a first real look at their on-screen collaboration. With The Studio filming and the biopic in the works, it’s clear that Madonna is fully back in the spotlight, both as a performer and as the subject of one of Hollywood’s most anticipated films.

Her commitment to her craft and determination to tell her story is inspiring. What do you think of Madonna and Julia Garner’s Venice look and this behind-the-scenes peek at The Studio? Share your thoughts in the comments.
