Maika Monroe Stuns in Horror Comeback With “Resident Evil: Requiem” Live-Action Trailer
Maika Monroe is back in the horror spotlight with a new live-action trailer for the upcoming survival horror game, Resident Evil: Requiem. The Longlegs and It Follows actress stars as a mother trying to survive the infamous Raccoon City outbreak of the 1990s, giving fans a fresh look at the chaotic world of the Resident Evil universe.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the shoot, Monroe described the set as “just chaos.” “Cops and dogs and smoke machines — it was just chaos,” she said, reflecting on the intense energy of filming with extras in zombie makeup.
The trailer, which was filmed in Mexico City, follows Monroe’s character as she navigates the streets of Raccoon City, attempting to protect her daughter from zombies and Lickers. A striking flash-forward shows Monroe’s character zombified, holding a photograph of herself and her child, highlighting the emotional weight of the story.
“What I loved about it was it had a lot of heart,” Monroe said. “It’s really heartbreaking, the story that you’re watching unfold. I just thought it was a really interesting and a new way to portray this video game coming out.”

Resident Evil: Requiem, developed by Capcom, is the ninth main entry in the long-running franchise. The game introduces players to FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who investigates Raccoon City with federal agent Leon S. Kennedy. Missions switch between the two characters, with Grace’s segments focused on survival horror and stealth, while Leon’s missions are more combat-driven.
The game was first announced in July 2024, and Capcom officially revealed it at Summer Game Fest 2025. It celebrates the 30th anniversary of the series and continues the story surrounding Raccoon City and Umbrella Corporation, connecting back to events last seen in Resident Evil 6. Resident Evil: Requiem is set to release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on February 27.
Monroe also gave fans a brief update on the sequel to her hit horror film It Follows, teasing that she’s heard “some good news recently. So we’ll see.”
For promotion, fans in New York and Los Angeles may notice cryptic posters with the tagline “Evil Has Always Had a Name” appearing around Times Square and Hollywood. Scanning the QR code on the posters leads directly to the new live-action trailer.
Monroe, who does not play any existing Resident Evil character, described her role as a “short-film type of dynamic,” giving players a fresh perspective on the Raccoon City outbreak.
