‘Man of Tomorrow’ May Be Adding a New Female Lead—Wonder Woman Speculated
James Gunn is moving forward with the next chapter in the DC Universe with his upcoming film Man of Tomorrow.
The director confirmed that the movie, set for release on July 9, 2027, will feature Superman in a major role but will not be a direct sequel to the 2025 Superman film. According to Gunn, the story will focus as much on Lex Luthor as it does on Superman, with the two working together to face a bigger threat. Brainiac has been confirmed as the main villain. Filming is set to begin in Atlanta in April 2026.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman reports that the film is now looking to cast a major new female character. The studio is reportedly scouting a young actress in her 20s for the role. While speculation among fans has suggested this could be Wonder Woman, Gunn has confirmed that the character has not yet been cast. Fans have pitched names such as Jaimie Alexander, Adrianne Palicki, Ana de Armas, Adria Arjona, and Alexandra Daddario.

In addition to the movie, Gunn has been exploring spin-off TV projects based on supporting characters from the film. A Jimmy Olsen series for HBO Max was announced in November 2025, with Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda serving as writers and showrunners. The show will follow Olsen and other Daily Planet reporters as they investigate supervillains, with Gorilla Grodd as the focus of the first season. A Mister Terrific spin-off was also reported to be under consideration.
