Margot Robbie is reflecting on a moment from early in her career that was as frustrating as it was unsolicited. During a recent video interview with musician Charli XCX for Complex, the 35-year-old actress was asked to name the worst gift she had ever received.

Without missing a beat, Robbie recalled a male co-star who once handed her a copy of the 2007 lifestyle guide Why French Women Don’t Get Fat. The book, which focuses on weight management and portion control, was essentially a blunt way of telling her she needed to drop some weight.

Robbie remembered being stunned by the audacity of the gesture at the time, noting her reaction was a simple and direct Whoa, f— you, dude. Looking back on the situation, the Barbie star admitted it was a bizarre way for a fellow actor to suggest she didn’t meet a certain physical standard.

While Robbie kept the actor’s name private, she mentioned that the encounter happened really back in the day and that she has no idea where he is now. Her interviewer, Charli XCX, didn’t hold back her thoughts on the mystery man’s current status, jokingly telling the camera that his career’s over, babe.

Robbie could only laugh at the memory, adding that it was just wow to realize someone thought giving her a book to help her lose weight was appropriate. As of February, Margot Robbie has clearly had the last laugh, as she remains one of the most powerful and sought-after figures in the film industry.

She is currently on a high-fashion press tour for the highly anticipated film Wuthering Heights, which hits theaters this Friday, February 13. In this bold new adaptation directed by Emerald Fennell, Robbie stars as the volatile Catherine Earnshaw alongside Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

The film has already generated massive buzz for its modern, “sultry” take on the classic Emily Brontë novel and features a supporting cast that includes Hong Chau and Shazad Latif. Aside from her work in front of the camera, Robbie is also serving as a producer on the project through her company, LuckyChap Entertainment.

This continues her successful partnership with Fennell following their previous collaborations on Promising Young Woman and the viral hit Saltburn. Beyond the moors of Yorkshire, Robbie has several other major projects keeping her busy this year.

She recently starred in the romantic fantasy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside Colin Farrell, which was released in late 2025. There are also persistent rumors that she is developing a The Sims movie adaptation and a new Ocean’s Eleven prequel with her Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling.

Do you think Margot Robbie’s experience with unsolicited advice is a sign that even the biggest stars have to deal with body-shaming early in their careers? Share your thoughts in the comments.
